This little gadget has revolutionised my life, and thankfully made it quite a bit cheaper too. The R4 cartridge works by acting as a casing to put an SD memory card in. This way it allows the DS to read what is on a standard memory card. There are, of course, numerous possibilities this opens up - all being very exciting in a geeky kinda way. The DS can be turned into anything from a video viewer to a personal organiser. A lovely little 'homebrew' movement has begun on the internet, where people write the free software which makes these applications work.

Most importantly though, it can be used to store ROMs of DS games. ROMs are effectively a ripped version of a video game. When chart games come out at £30 each, this can be a welcome relief to one's pocket.

There are a few similar products like this, but through my collective frienship group's experience on that matter, this is the easiest and most reliable one to use.

Summary: A bit fiddly in places, but once it has all clicked you'll never look at your DS the same again
