Advantages: Play All movies(GREAT!), Easy to use!, Not exspensive!

Disadvantages: Annoying to disc swap

I have just recently purchased a Playstation 2 for £199.99 and was really impressed by the quality of sound that you can get from your unit. I have waited over four-month for this unit and with the help from the nice Dooyoo member who rated my opinions I was able to afford one.

(THANK YOU!)

Since reading all the other opinion on the DVD region X I was really impressed on the details written by the other Dooyoo members.

Now the problem that the other member has had, I personally have not experienced.

WHAT IS DVD REGION X?
-------------------------------------

Now this device that we are talking about allows you to play DVD movies from other countries.

In Europe there is a restricted region code 2 which mean that you are not able to play any film from other countries like America, China, Russia and many more.

Now the reason why they apply these restriction is because that other countries are also ways releasing newer movies before than came out in Europe.

For example Knight Tale only came out in the cinemas in the UK a few weeks and America have already launch it on DVD.

What would you rather do go to the cinema with your friends or sit with your friend and watch the movie at home.

The main reason why people actually actually by DVD’s than go to the cinema is to save money.

£4.60 per adult tick time and times by how many people

Or

£15.99 from play247

Which one would you pick!

I have listed out the region codes for the countries

Region 1 - The U.S., U.S. territories and Canada
Region 2 - Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland
Region 3 - Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong
Region 4 - Mexico, South America, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Caribbean
Region 5 - Russia (okay, former Russia), Eastern Europe, India, most of Afric
a, North Korea, Mongolia
Region 6 - China

USING THE DEVICE?
------------------------------

Now what you get is a memory-input device that slot in to the playstation2 memory slot and a CD. Once you’ve inserted the slot in the memory card slot you can then power on your unit and place the CD into the drive. You then see the CD load up and present you with a menu option of which region you would like to select. Press the X button on your pad to select the region and the drive will open up. Insert the region DVD and close the loading tray and then wait for your movie to load up.

Now for some people this will be a tidiest task but to watch the latest movie it will be great. Plus there is no modification needed to your playstion in anyway.

NTSC or PAL
------------------

As you know that in America the screen resolution is different from Europe and that they run there films and broadcast at a different flicker rate.

To play most of the American movies you need to make sure your television support NTSC signals or otherwise it will not work.

You will normally experience black or white screens or screen flickering if your t.v does not support NTSC.

Never mind it looks like you might need a newer t.v.

OVERALL
---------------

I really enjoy watching my movies and I have over 160 English and Indian movies to watch and most of my stuff and NTSC compatible movies.

All I know is that this device has helped me to play all the movies from my old dvd player that is also Multi regional to my Playstation2.

I really love this device and would recommend to anyone.

Read MR.COATES updated opinion on future compatibility!(It's good to know)!

Thank you!

Think I'll stick to playing DVDs on my DVD player cos the disc swapping does sound cumbersome. Does it also work for Region 0 as well cos my PS2 will play them, but in black and white.

I never knew there were so many DVD regions, guess I'd better not get any DVDs during my visit to Hong Kong, not until I get one of these anyway! Chinny
