When i'm at the pub with pint in hand, my friends and I will generally make a b-line to the nearest quiz machine. In the local Wetherspoons, this takes the form of an 'itbox'.
Made by Leisure Link, the itbox is a touch-screen freestanding terminal which offers a variety of games. These include; 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?', 'Monopoly', 'Deal or No Deal', '1 vs 100', Trivial Pursuit, 'Every Loser Wins', 'Hangman', 'Bullseye' and many more.
As well as the above games where you have to answer questions, there are also card and skill games. 'Tactiles' is one which falls under the skill category, and involves matching similar looking aliens - which is both addictive and difficult.
It generally costs either 50p or £1 to play, depending on the game, and the jackpot is usually £20.
Some of the games are easier to win cash on than the others - we seem to have a higher percentage of wins on Who Wants to be a Millionaire than anything else. During a typical Saturday night - a couple of our group will typically go away with a few £3 or £4 wins, whilst occasionally someone will get lucky and make about £15 (like adambrown400 did last sat).
Obviously, like any other 'gambling' machine, the difficulty of the questions will be determined by the amount of money in the machine. Hence, if someone has just won the £20 jackpot - then the questions will be a lot harder for the next player.
The itbox is a fun addition to any pub, and is good when you've got a group of friends gathered round the screen answering questions. Pub quiz machines are generally a good way to expand your general knowledge - and if you've got the brains, you can make a bit of money from them also.
