I have always made use of the rubber protective sleeves for my Nintendo Wii remotes and when I upgraded to the MotionPlus system I wanted something a bit different from the plain old sleeves to protect my new remotes and nunchuks. With the first Wii system I bought various accessories for my remotes, but I thought I would try something different so I decided to try out the Memorex MotionPlus remote and nunchuk sleeves which cost under £9 for each set. I bought 2 sets - one in green and one in blue so I could easily identify which was the primary and which was the secondary set of controls.
The sleeves are very easy to put onto both the remote and nunchuk device and within seconds I were ready to try them out in gameplay. Often, friends are sceptical and suggest that they could affect the sensitivity of the MotionPlus system with the sleeves applied but I have used the controls with and without the sleeves with no noticable difference and so I would rather play with the sleeves on. As I use the wrist strap on the Wii MotionPlus remote I have no real issues with hitting walls with either controller. The rubber sleeves do offer protection if, in all the excitement of gameplay, you happen to catch them with one of the devices, but I don't have this problem very often. I find that for me the rubber sleeves are there to offer extra grip. If you are playing with the console for a long period of time the palms of your hands will become moist and it can be easy for the nunchuk especially to slip from your grip. The rubber sleeves are textures for extra grip in the right areas, and are designed as to not affect the way you grip the controls without the sleeves on.
The only problem created with the rubber sleeves is the insertion and removal of the batteries from the Wii MotionPlus remotes. I think that the bright range of colours that Memorex supply these rubber sleeves in allows you to personalise your controllers and this will appeal to regular users of the Wii MotionPlus console. If you don't currently use the rubber sleeves with your controllers then you will soon adapt to playing with them on, and as you now have more choice than the clear rubber sleeves you will be able to find something to your liking.
I have never really been a fan of the official Nintendo Jacket Sleeves you get with the Wii as standard and are always advised to place on the controller before using it. I tended not to use them as I found they felt awful, effected my control and irritated my hand. So when casually browsing the Wii accessories on this very site one day I came across the Memorex Motionplus Remote Nunchuk Sleeves and decided to purchase them for myself, arriving just before Xmas I have had some time to use them and here are my thoughts.
Memorex are an established and successful company when dealing with video game accessories and they have went hell for leather with the Wii making all ranges of items. These sleeves are intended mainly to jazz up the look of the controller and are available in all colours but the green took my fancy and that's the one I invested in.
The sleeve is made of the same flexible, elastically material as the official ones and grip the nunchuck and controller tightly. The colouring is bright green and vivid and the aesthetics of the design will hit you straight away.
Grooves run down the side of each sleeve which are intended to enhance your grip of the remote and they do work. I was vastly surprised that they performed this function and did not believe how effective they were. The controller feels so comfortable in the hand and does not irritate or grate the skin at all!
The padding is much much thicker than the official sleeves and provide much more ease not only on the hands put as a protective tool. They feel so soft in the hand and of course the padding will aid when you throw away the remote in frustration and also when they fly out of your hand when you are playing darts or bowling and forget you're actually on the console!
As insinuated in the title they also support the new motion plus accessory, and in fact without a motion plus attachment on the bottom of your controller this device isn't for you!
At £9.99 they are also reasonably priced.
All in all these Memorex devices are an excellent alternative and improvement upon the official pads and come highly recommended in terms of protecting your pad and also improving your grip on the wii mote.
