Nintendo Wii Remote Jacket
Advantages: Protects wiimote
Disadvantages: It's a bit pintless really!
We've all heard the stories of people randomly throwing their Wiimotes at the TV when in the grip of a particularly exciting game.
Personally, when I heard this I thought, 'idiots! You've gotta be pretty daft to do that!' However, I have been in the presence of many people who have done just that, I would have done it once as well, had I not have been using the wrist strap.
So, some genius came up with an product that would protect your Wiimotes from any damage that could be caused by this random throwing ... a silicone jacket.
If you can't already tell, I'm not completely convinced by this idea.
This is a product that will protect your Wiimote from damage, damage that is mainly caused by throwing or dropping the Wiimote; yet there is already a product that comes supplied with every Wiimote that prevents these situation occurring in the first place - the wrist strap!
Surely if people used this then there would be no need to cover the Wiimote?
So, for the sake of this review, let's pretend that the wrist strap doesn't exist.
The silicone Wii covers come in various styles and colours. Some plain and 'figure hugging', some more detailed and shapely.
I have a few of these in various shapes and colours (they tend to come free when you buy other accessories), they are all pretty similar in that they are basically a silicone Wii case with holes in all the right places, i.e where the buttons and connectors are.
The other thing they have in common is that they are all notoriously difficult to get on.
It is around three minutes of huffing, puffing, wiggling and jiggling, inching it up bit by bit; the end result is a skin tight covering that will not roll up or slide off.
That may sound fine, you can put it on then just forget about it; not really, the covers aren't compatible with any other accessories, so if you fancy a game of Mario Kart or something you have to peel the cover back off as the Wiimote won't fit inside the wheel when the cover is on.
I find the whole thing a little pointless to be honest; yes it may protect the wiimote from wear and tear, (saying this, we have had our Wiimotes for 2 years now and they still look as good as new) but it is really annoying and time consuming having to take it off every time you wish to play a different game, so much so that I'd rather not bother with them in the first place.
My advice? If you are worried about throwing your wiimote at the TV when playing...
PUT THE BLOOMIN' WRIST STRAP ON!
That's what it's there for!
Summary: Don't bother.
