Official Nintendo Wii Remote Jacket
The Wii Remote Jacket is a silicone case which fits securely into place on your Wii remote. The Jacket is designed to help protect not only your wii remote from any damage but also to protect your walls, furniture and pets amongst other things from accidental flying remotes.
The Jacket is almost transparent in colour. The bottom of the jacket is thin and hardly makes a difference to the size of the remote, however as you reach the top of the remote the jacket is a lot wider and has like a large bubble effect towards the top. This is to provide more protection as the top of the remote is the area most likely to get hit or damaged. I personally think this looks rather ugly but at the same time it is the extra cushioning that is often needed when excitement takes over during games!
The feel of the wii remote while using the jacket is weird. It is made from a silicone material and while I do agree with the theory that the jacket gives the user a much firmer grip on the remote, I find that it makes the remote uncomfortable to hold and it also tends to make my hands feel clammy and sweaty.
** Use of Jacket **
While using the wii remote jacket I find that other than getting used to the strange texture of the remote jacket, game play is exactly the same as normal. The jacket doesn't affect the way the wii remote functions at all and the wrist strap can still be worn as there is a hole in the jacket to thread the strap through.
We tend to only really use the jackets when either my little brother comes round to play as he likes to throw himself around the room for most games! We have also recently started using them more when playing games such as Just Dance as we find with a few people holding wii remotes and dancing around an average sized living room fingers and arms often get caught by the remotes and it does come quite hard and causes a few bruises so the jackets are handy for preventing this.
** Attachments **
If you are using a Nunchuk then this can be used with the jacket in place, there is a small flap at the bottom which moves and you can plug the nunchuk into the port as usual. I've never had any problems with this. The jackets are designed well to ensure that everything can be fitted and used as normal.
If you are using a motion plus attachment then you will need the larger Wii remote jacket which comes included with the motion plus attachment when it is purchased.
Other accessories such as steering wheels and sporting attachments the jacket has to be removed for as the remote will not fit into the space with it on.
** Price and Availability **
The wii remote jackets come included with the purchase of a wii remote or a motion plus sensor, however if you damage or loose it or you purchased your wii before they were released then you can get them for free from the Nintendo UK website.
** My Experience and Opinion **
My personal opinion of the Wii Remote Jacket is that of mixed feelings, I see the advantage of using it when children are playing and the remote is more likely to get thrown around or accidentally dropped if they forget to put the wrist strap on. I can also see the advantages of walls and furniture being more protected if they are hit by the rubber rather than the hard shell of the wii remote. For me personally I choose not to use the remote jacket as I don't like the feel of it and how bulky it makes the remote seem in my hand. When it comes to would I recommend the wii remote jacket I would say yes, I recommend always having one handy just incase the inexperience wii player comes to visit and poses a risk of damage and also if you have children I would definitely recommend the use of one!
Thanks for reading :)
