Advantages: very good pictures, sound, you can use psx ones
Disadvantages: dvd play back is green
The humble Scart cable. It’s very good and anyone SHOULD buy one. It’s not prohibiterly expensive. Most can be bought for £7. I would definitely recommend buying one. The picture will be VASTLY improved then you’re standard 3 phono and the Scart converter at the end. That converter is only that a converter that lets you use your 3 phono leads to a Scart plug. It doesn’t improve the picture or sound in the slightest. But when you buy a Scart cable you will IMMEDIATELY notice the sharpness in the picture quality. It is really that good. But if you want to go for total quality I would recommend a S-VHS lead over scart any day. But not all tv’s have a S-VHS plug so most of you will have to use Scart. But the Scart image is very good and the sound as well ^_^. One problem though. If you are using a Scart cable and you are watching a DVD it will be in green hues. This is macrovision set by the DVD forum. Its to stop you from making copies of DVD by plugging it in to your VCR. But Sony can’t really deal with this as they have to do it by the forum in order for the DVD feature to be added. But silly thing is that most of the DVD players allow for DVD out by Scart anyway! Makes no sense right? Yeah thought so but that’s the way it is. Shouldn’t be too much of a problem though. So if your in to watching DVDS on the ps2 a lot a Scart cable would be useless for you. Buy if your mainly in to gaming and don’t have a S-VHS port on your tv then I’d get it. Another good thing is that your old psx Scart cable DOES work on the ps2 as mine does so you can use that one. It VASTLY improves the picture it really does. Its like me looking at the tv without my glasses. The different to me is that good. The lines and everything are stronger and sharper in detail. The sounds more true and with a good speaker system great. Go buy one you will love it. <

- 10/11/01 You don't always get a problem with Macrovision, because my Sony DVD player will record via SCART (or S-VHS) to tape. Mind you, it was re-chipped to be multi-region, so I think that this is why the Macrovision has also been by-passed. |

- 15/10/01 I wouldn't get one, as I use the PS2 for DVDs quite a lot, so like you say it would be useless for me. Cheers for the great review. Alan |
