I had used my Playstation 3 as a Blu-ray for 2 years before I finally decided to purchase one earlier this year and only then because I bought PlayTV. It is a standard remote control - play button, pause, fast forward etc but it uses blue tooth technology so you don't need to point it directly at a light sensor to use it. I have had my Playstation 3 since December when I bought it on sale from Woolworths. I do use it's Blu Ray function & it is my only & main Blu Ray player. With this in mind, I decided that I should use my first DooYoo miles to buy this remote. It is a sturdy item that fees quite solid although even with the batteries in the item is suprsingly light. Let me just preface this review by telling you that I bought this item as part of a movie bundle. It contained a blu-ray, HDMI cable and the remote itself. It was a great bargain and cost me about the same as the individual price for the remote itself. As such it was a great bargain for me but I can't say if I'd find it as good value if I'd just bought the remote. This remote is a bluetooth device that functions as a basic Playstation 3 controller. Sony do it again, they release another console with DVD/Blu ray playback and encourage the consumer to fork out extra reddies to get the best from it. The PS3 will play Blu ray out of the box with a standard six-axis contoller however it can be a bit cumbersome navigating around menus and trying to remember which button is fast forward or chapter skip, many a time I've accidentally restarted the film when I just wanted to pause :s Thus it's recommended that you buy a "proper" remote control. We ordered one of these remotes when we ordered our PS3 so they both arrived together and we are so glad we did. It can be a bit expensive but it is worth it. The remote control is very good quality and well built. It feels good in your hand and all the buttons are easy to press. You get 2 AA batteries included with it and they last a long time. This remote uses bluetooth to connect to the PS3 console so this means it is extremely responsive and you do not have to point the remote at the PS3 for it to work.
