Advantages: Improvement over the six axis
Disadvantages: Where's the power button?
Sony do it again, they release another console with DVD/Blu ray playback and encourage the consumer to fork out extra reddies to get the best from it.
The PS3 will play Blu ray out of the box with a standard six-axis contoller however it can be a bit cumbersome navigating around menus and trying to remember which button is fast forward or chapter skip, many a time I've accidentally restarted the film when I just wanted to pause :s Thus it's recommended that you buy a "proper" remote control.
As usual with Sony remotes this is of sturdy construction and has a high quality feel about it. It's a rather large unit but is surprisingly light in the hand. Unlike any other remote I've used this one uses the magic of Bluetooth to communicate with the PS3, essentially this means it doesn't need line of sight ... you can operate it from a different room if you feel mischievious :) One thing to remember is you must sync it with the PS3, took me a while to work that one out as I didn't realise it was Bluetooth.
The main drawback with this remote is it's sensitivity, touching any button on it will turn the machine on but because the remote doesn't have a power button like a regular remote you have to go through the PS3 menus to turn off the machine. This can become frustrating when you're juggling remotes about.
In conclusion, if you want to use your PS3 to watch films then you're gonna need one of these, it'll make like that little bit easier.
Summary: Another indispensible gadget supplied by Sony
