Unlike the usual battery packs for the Xbox controllers these have the rechargeable batteries already inside, and there is no opening at the top to replace them. It is all closed off, but it still clicks into the back of the remote in the same way. They are identical to normal battery packs with the small button at the top to release them from the remote when they are clicked into place, and without really inspecting them they look no different. Then you receive a 2 meter wire that connects the battery packs and to any device with a USB port. They are simple to use by plugging in the USB in and then the other side has a small mini USB port to charge the batteries. On the front of the battery packs there is a port for this wire to be plugged in, and while they are charging a green light appears. They fit the Xbox controllers just as well as the official Microsoft product. I will say you can tell they are not official as they fell lighter, but they actually fit better than the official ones. At times the Microsoft version feels a little lose and my children lose connection in the game and have to readjust the battery pack. These if anything feels a little tight compared to the official product and they sometimes take a push to get in. Once you do get them in they fit well and they do not disconnect while in the middle of a game. Also, sometimes they can be difficult to get out. This is great for me as I do not like my children trying to take them out and charge them themselves, but it can be a little frustrating at times and I have broke a nail or two. I have to admit durability is not as perfect as it could be. If the battery packs are dropped while they are not in the remote then the casing just falls to pieces. It exposes the rechargeable batteries and the wiring and so we had to replace them. Even so at 7 pound for a pack of two they are still far better value than regular batteries. The batteries charge very well and as it is a mini USB lead they can be charged by plugging them into your Xbox while you are playing. As my children are still young I tend to charge them on my laptop while I am working. I leave them charging for around an hour and then the batteries will last for a week easily. My children do play their Xbox daily, but I limit the time they are allowed on there so they obviously will need to be charged more often if you play more. If the batteries completely run out of charge then it is the complete opposite and they seem to take an age to charge. At 7 pound for two they are good value.
Being a big gamer and using wireless controllers means you are going to go through the batteries which not only adds up in terms of expense but is also not great for the environment so why not go for one of the rechargeable battery packs designed for your controller? I decided to go for exactly this option and picked up the Venom twin charge pack when out shopping in my local ASDA but has it been a good piece of kit?
The Venom twin charge pack comes with two rechargeable batteries which each allow for up to about 18 hours of gameplay. This is less than other batteries will offer up but as you have two of them then you can simply change over your battery if you need to when the one in use has run low or just plug your charger cable in so you can play as you charge.
The pack comes with a 2 metre cable which has a split so that both chargers can be plugged in and charging at the same time. The split give the second battey a metre split from the other one so you can have two people play whilst their batteries charge.
The batteries are very simple to charge as you simply plug the charger cable in to your console and then in the USB port on the back of the batter pack. The placement of the connection is well though out as it ensures that the cable is not going to get in your way whilst you play (if charging whilst using controller).
The batteries are able to be charged when you XBOX 360 is in standby mode which means you can simply leave these in whilst you watch tv and they will charge up for you.
These batteries charge up very quickly with it only taking about 2.5 hours to charge them fully which means that you needn't worry about the batteries having a shorter gameplay time as they can be charged up so quickly.
Excellent value for money was what attracted me to these batteries as they were only around £10 for the pack of 2 batteries and the charger cable (which is split so you can charge both batteries at once).
The Venom batteries are very lightweight and so they are not going to make a huge difference in your gameplay (other batter packs are heavy and so lead to the controller feeling unbalanced I have found).
Overall I have been very impressed with these battery packs as they offer a great value for money option when you wish to have rechargeable batteries for the XBOX 360 console. The batteries are lightweight and easy to install to the controller and allow for ample gameplay before the next charge (which thankfully is a quick process too). A great product and a great price.
2 x Rechargeable battery packs, 1 x 2 mtr USB Chrage cable with 1 mtr split, 2.5 hours charge time, 18 hours of gameplay, play and charge simultaniously.
