Advantages: Looks the business, Adds stability, Quality build
Disadvantages: Price, Expensive, Rip-off?
Let’s be brutal about this. It’s a piece of arty plastic isn’t it? A gimmick of the highest order. It should have come packaged with the PS2 for free shouldn’t it? The thing is, no matter what you say about the PS2’s vertical stand you have to admit that it really does look good. If you’re looking a little perplexed then it’s quite likely that you have no idea what I’m going on about. Let me refresh your overloaded mind! When the PS2 was launched there were endless amounts of promotional pictures with the PS2 displayed in strange angles/places. The most attractive one was without question the unconventional upright stance. It just looked serious somehow – this console meant business and it was going to stand on it’s hind legs to make sure that you knew it! What’s in the box? Inside the blue box you will find the lovingly wrapped stand. It’s quite small, about the size of a DVD case and is essentially a flat piece of plastic with two triangular dark fading in to light blue pieces on the end. For some reason the blue triangular pieces don’t actually fit along the whole length of the console – there is a one inch gap at the end. Not sure why this is and it actually looks quite odd. Perhaps it’s a bit of artistic licence. If there was just one word that I could use to describe the stand it would have to be quality. Yes, it’s very expensive for what it is – a piece of flashy plastic but I honestly have to say that it really does look the part once your PS2 is nestled happily inside. If you’re thinking that you don’t really need a stand then you’re right but for the love of all things sacred please don’t have your console upright without some form of support. Although the PS2 is bottom heavy it would only take a tug on the controller lead to send it toppling over. If you
must have your PS2 standing upright then this is the one to get. There are other cheaper versions available but this is the one that looks the business. The two-tone blue even matches the PS2 logo so the continuation of colours is present. If your PS2 is on its side then get it upright and looking like the business – if you’re sensible though you’ll probably put the £9.99 towards an additional controller or a new game. I however am not sensible and I love this stand. I am slightly mad at times though…… MR.COATES
