Microsoft Points are more or less the currency of Xbox Live for the XBL Marketplace. Here you can download many products with the points such as arcade games, map packs, original xbox games, game add-ons, themes and gamer pictures, movie rentals, changing your gamertag and more.

You can get a 2100 point card for as little as £15, so £1 is worth 140 points. Map packs usually cost around 800 points, original Xbox games cost 1200 points and themes and gamer pictures cost from 80 - 300 points.

Unlike with PSN, you don't have to put your credit card on your account which is much safer and you just buy these cards, redeem the code in the markeplace and then download whatever you want to your hardrive. They definitely come in handy and if you play online a lot then you will need these for the map packs such as COD4 and 5, Gears 1 and 2 and Halo 3.

Remember, you can't get refunds on the things you buy so make sure you actually want them by downloading an arcade game trial first or trying out the maps at your friend's house or something.
