Advantages: safe & easy to use, no credit card needed to buy extra's for your xbox

Disadvantages: the packaging, such a small card doesn't need to be in a box?

What do points make? Priiiizes! Well in this case points make lots of downloadable goodies available on Xbox Live for your 360!

There are several different amounts which you can purchase, from as little as 800 to as much as 4200 points. The idea of the cards is that it cuts down on credit card transactions, making it easier and safer for people to purchase things online.

2100 Microsoft points currently retail at around £15-£18 depending on where you shop, I buy mine from my local Gamestation for £17.50.

The cards are simple to use they're just like the old top up cards you used to get for mobile phones. You scratch off the silver strip on the back of the card and a code is revealed which you enter on the Xbox Live dashboard.

- What Can You Buy With The Points? -

Well I shall only comment on what you can buy over Xbox Live as this is all that I've used my points on. You can use them to purchase anything from the Xbox Live Marketplace, from Arcade Games, to old Xbox Titles, Add-Ons for your games, to the latest Movies. You can purchase themes for your Xbox Dashboard, or gamer pictures, or download music videos, the amount of stuff on the Marketplace is amazing!

I've bought several thousand points over the past 6 months and tend to spend them on Game Add-Ons, like new map packs for certain games, or new songs for Rock Band or Guitar Hero. I've also purchased an original Xbox game Fable, which cost me 1,200 points (about £8 in real money). The prices vary so much depending on what you want to download. Most arcade games and such are around 800 points, songs for rock band are around 160 points, and movies cost a little over 350 points. However, when you download movies to your Xbox they're only available for rent, and this is for a 48hour period. You don't get to keep the movie for good. 350/360 points is around £2.50 in real money I think? So it's not really a bad deal.

- Overall -

The only bad thing about the points is the packaging that they come in. I buy them from my local Gamestation where they sell the tiny card about the same size as a credit card inside a box the same size as a DVD case. I find this absolutely ridiculous and a waste of packaging, it isn't very environmentally friendly to say the least. There is no need for such a big case for such a small card. Other than that I've got nothing bad to say about the points system, I think it's great. It's a safe way to enjoy buying add-ons etc for your Xbox or your PC without sending your credit card information over the internet.

I'd recommend anyone who's got Xbox Live to get yourself some points if your wanting to extend your gaming a little further. Whether it be buying add-ons for your favourite games, or downloading arcade games to play with your mates. There's something for everyone on Xbox Live Marketplace.
