Disadvantages: Watch out for their faulty goods returns policy which can catch you out

I purchased an LCD TV from Comet Reading in mid December as a Christmas present for a friend. The present was opened yesterday and unfortunately it did not work properly. So I did the obvious thing and today took the TV back to Comet thinking it would be a simple matter of them swapping the faulty TV for a new one. No such luck. After explaining the position to a customers services employee I was met with a rather frosty retort that the TV would have to go back for repair as I had had it for more than 72 hours. This she said was the company rule. Despite explaining the obvious that Christmas presents are normally bought well before Christmas and not opened until Christmas day or shortly after meaning that the 72 hour policy was unfair I got nowhere. It was a matter of rules are rules. I then tried my luck with the so called "manager" but found myself wasting my breath after the customer services employee had reminded him of the rules as shown on her computer screen. I left the store minus one TV in exchange for a copy of a repair docket. Did I feel conned !!

Having got home I called the Head Office customer services. No joy here. I was told by the advisor that like she did I should open all electrical goods immediately I got home. Patronising or what. It certainly did not make me feel I was getting good customer service and only inflamed the situation.

It makes you wonder how this company can get away with selling faulty goods and when confronted with the evidence refuse to take proper responsibility. Irrespective of the outcome I will NOT be buying anything again from this company or its associates. Caveat emptor (Buyer Beware) really does apply with this company.
