Eclipse Computers (Coventry)
by David Morgans I ordered £530 of computer components on their website late on Sunday evening. On Monday I was doing a search I found several websites reviewing Eclipse and most (but not all) of the comments were negative. I got worried, so I emailed Eclipse and asked for a delivery date. The next day I received a reply saying they were out of stock of ... the CPU and expected delivery on Friday (I thought - here we go! and I got even more worried) - and therefore I should expect my order the following Monday. BUT true to their word, the complete order arrived on Monday as promised. I have not built the computer yet - so i cannot report on the state of the components (though all were in sealed boxes) and I cannot comment on after sales service. by John of Hampshire Having read the glowing review in Computer Shopper for the Solar i76r577 PC, I decided to purchase one. I used the simple on-line configuration tool to select a different PC case & double up to 8GB of installed RAM. Website process was simple and efficient. If I have one criticism though, it is that after the initial order ... confirmation e-mail I heard nothing more, neither a predicted dispatch nor delivery date - there is just a generic statement on the website that orders will normally be satisfied within 5 to 10 working days. So after 5 days I got in touch by e-mail with Eclipse to find out the status of my order, and was pleasantly surprised to get a speedy response saying that it would be dispatched the next working day. I subsequently got an e-mail with the tracking details of the package as promised. Despite the bad weather, PC arrived in good time and was very well packaged. Experience was much as 'Knockermalin's' review of 09/12/10 in that I can't comment on the Eclipse after sales but I can say that the computer I have received, lives up to the billing. I also don't like the stickers on the back warning that you may invalidate the warranty if you remove the panel (as a qualified electronics engineer I like to open up the case on any PC which has been in transit to ensure that no internal components have become dislodged in transit before powering up). That been said, the PC booted up first time without any problems and was well configured, with just a Windows Update to sort things out. This is a good PC at a good price. I will be purchasing from Eclipse again in the New Year (particularly if they can stave off some of the Chancellor's VAT hike). Read the complete review |

by websteph I am not a great computer person, I know how to set one up and how to use one but I would never dream of building or fixing one. However after reading a article in a trusted computer magazine informing me how good Eclipse were I decided to buy my desk top computer, which I had been saving up for from them. Due to my lack of computer ... knowledge I decided to go for a ready built package that Eclipse computers would put together for me and send out. Disregarding my usual caution with buying high value things on the internet I spent over £800 for what, I thought, was a top of the range computer. Here the problems start: 1) I had to arrange for my partner to wait in all day as Eclipse would not guarantee a two hour slot in which it could be delivered. Most companies can do this now so why are Eclipse so behind time? 2) There were no instructions on how to put it together and, as I have stated, I am not a computer builder and so it took me 2 hours of figuring out to get it working. When it finally worked it was great and I was very satisfies...HOWEVER two weeks later the colour went funny, after a little research I found out it was the red filter that had somehow malfunctioned ...next problem 3) I emailed Eclipse and got a quick response, happy. However I was told to go inside the casing to check the graphics card. This I refused to do as I would not know what I was looking for, I later found out this would also have voided my warranty, no warning of this was given. 4) Eclipse agreed to collect the computer as it was still under warranty and have it back to me fixed. Great but then... 5) I had to take a day off work to arrange for the item to be collected as again they could not guarantee when it would be collected 6) A week goes by and no word, after an email I get a phone call saying they had received my computer but that the warranty seals were broke, now ask yourself if I did not go into the casing as my knowledge was too low, how would these seals have broke, and were they ever sealed in the first place, unfortunately I did not know about these seals so did not check. Also if they were broke why does it take them a week to call me up and let me know? 7) After hearing I would now have to pay £65 to get my computer back as the seals were broke I was then promised it would be back to me by the end of the following week...well I am now sat here 3 weeks later, no computer, no answer to my emails and when I ring I am given no answer and promised phone calls with the answer never arrive. Answer me this Eclipse, is this the customer satisfaction that you apparently pride yourself on? I am still without a computer, £800 down and with no response from you as to what is going on. I urge people not to go through this company unless you have a lot of spare time on your hands to sort things out when things do go wrong.
