Well i didn't think i would be doing this, so my girlfriends son wanted a custom build computer high spec to play games on, so everyone gathered money together and finally managed to get him one for christmas with top end specs on everything completly custom build costiing just over £750, the graphics card had to be an nVidia as we're not a fan of ATI radeon cards.
So first of all we were expecting the computer very shortly after order as we were told the delivery date, 10 days later i phoned customer "care" to be told the delay on the order was due to the fans i choose on the site not being in stock and they were due to be in stock in a months time, so they changed the fans and told me it would be done asap
Another few days went by and i emailed them again as still no computer, but no response finally the computer turned up, with a big document telling us half the parts that were ordered were changed for a like for like part, not sure if we actually paid for what we got as the prices wern't shown and no refunds were given, so feeling that we safely had a 3 year warrenty what's the worst that can happen ehh?
so just at the start of the month we noticed the nVidia 640 graphics card was constantly dropping frame rate in games and even some older games it struggled to play, so i emailed eclipse computers rather than spending the £10 phone credit phoning their 0844 number again, i recieved a phone call which they understood my issue and told me they would talk to their colleauge and see if they can get it in and replace the graphics card for something the same or better under the warrenty as it didn't seem right that this was happening. that was on the 13th july 2014
Today 23rd july 2014 i recieve an email telling me they tried to phone me (no missed calls) and to phone them, after waiting 20 minutes on hold as they were aparently busy, i got told as the graphics card isn't faulty they can't do anything and that by the spec of the graphics card it isn't really suitable for gaming and although i was only offered that choice or the lower choice of graphics card when i ordered if i had of phoned them up they could have made another choice surgestion that wasn't listed on the site that was better to my needs.
As the graphics card isn't faulty they can not replace it or change it under warrenty as it's not faulty, they surgested that i switch to the onboard graphics to try that, however when i explained that the bios option doesn't have a switch mode for the graphics they said ahh i see your problem, the only surgestion woudl be to remove the graphics card to try the onboard graphics however that will break your 3 year warrenty if you can see living without it (6 months in) i replied no.
I then went on to tell them that i was dissapointed as i personally use the nVidia 630m and its only got 1gb VRAM and i can play the same games withwout any issues yet the 640 2gb VRAM struggles really poorly to play the same games, to which i got told it was strange and that maybe because i use a gaming laptop it's tweaked to play games, where i use the exact same settings as the 630 on the 640 and it doesn't work any better.
So they then told me that i could buy a graphics card from them at a discount price and prices start from £80 upwards + i would have to get boxs big enough to post the computer off + courier charges, as even if it was a fault i would still have to pay courier charges, but as the graphics card works and isn't pixelated or blank they can't do anything for my current situation and they couldn't do anything else for me as, "what use would a 2nd hand card be to us when we don't even have the box anymore for it" - customer service quote.
I'm not at all happy about this i've made it clear to them however i really got the impression from customer care of, "here's our cup of care, oh look it's empty!" so given up on getting any help there after call i relised that the phone call cost £10 of phone credit to their silly 0844 number.
i'm starting to regret paying for 3 year warrenty at the extra costs when you get your first year free normally on any purchase and even more so that was their "gold service" yet you have to pay for postage either way even if there is a fault unless you remove the faulty part yourself and then you loose your warrenty.
I ordered adata s102 usb3 memory sticks which I spents hours researching that they would suit my needs as I wanted fast & reliable plus reasonable price sticks. what arrived Kingston datatraveler g4 which are some kingstons cheaper memory sticks without quoted speeds so in effect cheaper memory no answer to emails so no solution available
I decide to buy a PC as mine was almost as old as me. I am not that knowledgeable and decided to visit the store and talk about what I want. The Sales Person was a great help and even though I had £700 for my budget he gave me honest advice and now I have a great PC and made a saving too. I have telephoned them a couple of time to ask for help as I did not know Windows 8 too well and I found they always are very helpful. Highly recommended.
My computer has been a little slow so on newer games so decided to get a new graphics card - I've used eclipse computers quite a few times for upgrades and new builds for myself and friends and always found them knowledgeable and very helpful (and the good prices help!). Unfortunately the graphics card I had chosen was currently out of stock but the guy on the phones was very helpful and found me a an alterative brand which scored a bit higher in 3Dmark than the one I wanted originally so it worked out very well in the end!
The delivery arrived the next day and everything was well packaged and in perfect order and I'm very happy with both the new graphics card and the service they provided me. I would definitely recommend them, but I would say call them and speak to them to double check stock levels!
Thought I might comment on a great shopping trip today at Eclipse Computers.I have been using this shop in Coventry for almost 10 years now and I am still surprised how they keep their product range up to date and their prices so low.Brought myself enough bits for a new system today and still saved a few quid, well happy with that.Give them a try.
i bought some items which have taken more then 10 days to arrive, i decided to call them and was shocked at how rude the member of staff was on the phone he was telling me in a matter of speaking to like it or lump it attitude, i forgot to take it further whilst on the phone so i emailed them asking for the manager to call or email me i received "NO REPLY" i emailed them again and yet again had no reply so from my wifes email i sent an enquiry to purchase more items as if it was a new customer and within 20 minutes i had a reply.....
I have since read online some of the shocking reviews and i have to say i dont know how they are still running, they have had threats made to them for ripping people off even one angry customer went to coventry and demanded to see the manager/owner called "Gulrez Akhtar" who told them he wanst nothing to do with the company although the website is registered to him and a female member of staff confirmed he was in fact the manager/director? what a shambles this company is ive even noticed on facebook there is people with ANTI-Eclipse groups on there? things are bad if people are having to create groups?
Stay away!!!! Awful company and even worse customer service. Sold me a faultymotherboard then refused to give me a refund. Now having to go through my bank andtrading standards to try and get my money back. They think they are above the law andaren't interested in helping you once they have your money. They might be the cheapest butwhen you end up with a £150 dead motherboard and no PC for weeks/ months it's really notworth it!
..because they built a system for me in which they left the CD-ROM unplugged. Of course I only found this out by invalidating my warranty and opening the PC. The lack of customer service and cost of return made it the only option for me. I have never seen so much ribbon cable in one place. Literally yards of the stuff. Terrible construction. This was a long while ago but it doesn't look as if the company has changed much.Still, at least I'm not afraid to delve into a PC now.
I ordered £530 of computer components on their website late on Sunday evening. On Monday I was doing a search I found several websites reviewing Eclipse and most (but not all) of the comments were negative. I got worried, so I emailed Eclipse and asked for a delivery date. The next day I received a reply saying they were out of stock of the CPU and expected delivery on Friday (I thought - here we go! and I got even more worried) - and therefore I should expect my order the following Monday.
BUT true to their word, the complete order arrived on Monday as promised. I have not built the computer yet - so i cannot report on the state of the components (though all were in sealed boxes) and I cannot comment on after sales service.
I can only report my experience - but it has been a very positive one so far.
PS I do wish I was able to track my order on the website
DO NOT buy from this company... They are non professionals attempting to run a professional business and doing it extremely badly.Expect Delays, Poor Communications, Lies, Excuses and Ignorance. They also advertise products that they do not have in stock. The Low prices are a Poisened Apple and by the time you recieve your goods their value will probably have significantly depreciated... Unfortunately this is not an exagguration. They are however extremely efficient at taking money out of your account so watch out.
Having read the glowing review in Computer Shopper for the Solar i76r577 PC, I decided to purchase one. I used the simple on-line configuration tool to select a different PC case & double up to 8GB of installed RAM.
Website process was simple and efficient.
If I have one criticism though, it is that after the initial order confirmation e-mail I heard nothing more, neither a predicted dispatch nor delivery date - there is just a generic statement on the website that orders will normally be satisfied within 5 to 10 working days. So after 5 days I got in touch by e-mail with Eclipse to find out the status of my order, and was pleasantly surprised to get a speedy response saying that it would be dispatched the next working day. I subsequently got an e-mail with the tracking details of the package as promised.
Despite the bad weather, PC arrived in good time and was very well packaged.
Experience was much as 'Knockermalin's' review of 09/12/10 in that I can't comment on the Eclipse after sales but I can say that the computer I have received, lives up to the billing. I also don't like the stickers on the back warning that you may invalidate the warranty if you remove the panel (as a qualified electronics engineer I like to open up the case on any PC which has been in transit to ensure that no internal components have become dislodged in transit before powering up). That been said, the PC booted up first time without any problems and was well configured, with just a Windows Update to sort things out.
This is a good PC at a good price. I will be purchasing from Eclipse again in the New Year (particularly if they can stave off some of the Chancellor's VAT hike).
Having read the glowing review for the Eclipse A925R575 PC in Computer Shopper (272) I rather impulsively ordered one on a cold and miserable December Thursday afternoon. To my horror I then stumbled across a whole load of bad feedback about Eclipse turning my excitement and anticipation into disapointment and trepidation.
On the following Monday I received a call from the guy building my new PC to explain a shortage of components (here we go, I thought!) and asking if they could fit a higher grade processor for a fiver more. No problem with that and just 2 days later a large carton turned up with my new PC. Fearing the worst, after reading so much negative feedback, I imagined this to be just the start of my woes. However, I was surprised by the quality of packaging (a box within a larger outer carton) and the PC was in pristine condition with all the manuals, driver discs and Windows disc in a nice folder (very neat!) along with a copy of my order, the invoice and a quality control check-list. Things were definitely looking up and on switching on I found the machine virtually ready to use with all drivers correctly loaded. After a quick Windows update and a bit of tweaking I was up and running!
All in all I was very pleasantly surprised by the presentation of this product which so far has lived up to the promise of the excellent review.
Of course, I can't comment on their aftersales but I can say that the computer I have received, more than lives up to my original expectations. Only downside so far are the stickers on the back warning that you may invalidate the warranty if you remove the panel, (probably to cover Eclipse from bungling amatuers poking around inside) but otherwise I am quite impressed so far with the service I have received in buying this excellent PC. Well done to Eclipse Computers of Coventry for producing such an excellent computer at such a reasonable price and delivering it so quickly.
I ordered my item off their internet site, but on receipt , found it wasn't compatible with the item i wanted to use it with. i sent the item back, but they wanted to keep £10 + vat for restocking charges to cover their delivery and testing costs!!! When I pointed out the Distant Selling Regulations, they claimed i had 'waived my rights'!!! I have now reported them to Consumer Direct as they have no respect for consumers or the law of the land.
I am not a great computer person, I know how to set one up and how to use one but I would never dream of building or fixing one. However after reading a article in a trusted computer magazine informing me how good Eclipse were I decided to buy my desk top computer, which I had been saving up for from them. Due to my lack of computer knowledge I decided to go for a ready built package that Eclipse computers would put together for me and send out. Disregarding my usual caution with buying high value things on the internet I spent over £800 for what, I thought, was a top of the range computer.
Here the problems start:
1) I had to arrange for my partner to wait in all day as Eclipse would not guarantee a two hour slot in which it could be delivered. Most companies can do this now so why are Eclipse so behind time?
2) There were no instructions on how to put it together and, as I have stated, I am not a computer builder and so it took me 2 hours of figuring out to get it working. When it finally worked it was great and I was very satisfies...HOWEVER two weeks later the colour went funny, after a little research I found out it was the red filter that had somehow malfunctioned
3) I emailed Eclipse and got a quick response, happy. However I was told to go inside the casing to check the graphics card. This I refused to do as I would not know what I was looking for, I later found out this would also have voided my warranty, no warning of this was given.
4) Eclipse agreed to collect the computer as it was still under warranty and have it back to me fixed. Great but then...
5) I had to take a day off work to arrange for the item to be collected as again they could not guarantee when it would be collected
6) A week goes by and no word, after an email I get a phone call saying they had received my computer but that the warranty seals were broke, now ask yourself if I did not go into the casing as my knowledge was too low, how would these seals have broke, and were they ever sealed in the first place, unfortunately I did not know about these seals so did not check. Also if they were broke why does it take them a week to call me up and let me know?
7) After hearing I would now have to pay £65 to get my computer back as the seals were broke I was then promised it would be back to me by the end of the following week...well I am now sat here 3 weeks later, no computer, no answer to my emails and when I ring I am given no answer and promised phone calls with the answer never arrive.
Answer me this Eclipse, is this the customer satisfaction that you apparently pride yourself on? I am still without a computer, £800 down and with no response from you as to what is going on.
I urge people not to go through this company unless you have a lot of spare time on your hands to sort things out when things do go wrong.
If Eclipse are reading this and want to reply I will happily receive their call or email email@example.com
I have trouble recognising and reconciling comments. When I lived near Coventry I always bought off Eclipse Computers as their price point was excellent and if ever I had a problem it was promptly sorted out. Even though I have moved to Lincolnshire I still source my major PC purchases from Eclipse and get excellent bargains and service. They are about the cheapest in the market place and if there is a problem you can get through to them on the phone (unlike many internet companies) I think a bit of give and take needed and I am happy to provide the balance re Eclipse Compters.
