Advantages: Cheap and good pre-sales
Disadvantages: Post- sales ignorance is unbelieveable
I have used this company several times when I could call into the shop, but had never dares order anything online with them due to bad reports of them being awful to deal with.
Last Thursday I had to cancel an order for a Dell 2208WFP with Overclockers who had been promising me stock for weeks. In order to get one for Christmas I found that Eclipse were one of the few places that were showing stock on their website.
I called them knowing that reports suggest what is shown in stock rarely is. I spoke to a helpful chap who told me "they are due today, let me check". A few minutes later he tells me "yes, we had 8 delivered today". I am told it has the standard Dell 3 yr Premium Panel Next Day Onsite warranty.
So I order it and it arrives at 9.30 am the next day, so far so good.
Being a regular Dell customer (they had no stock of their own monitor this time) I called them to double check the warranty status because the box on the monitor wasn't factory sealed, ie. It appeared that Eclipse had opened the box etc.
Dell told me it was shipped nearly 11 months ago and that the warranty had only just over two years left!! The monitor is also a Revision A00 which is acknowledged as having a number of faults as well.
I contact Eclipse Customer Services and tell them I want them to collect it and refund me the money and it takes 5 days to get a reply from them, and only then after mentioning claiming the money back off my credit card.
In the middle of this wait I even offer to drop it off at their premises which I was passing to save them collecting it, but no reply.
Clearly the chap finally responding hadn't read my previous emails, and tells me to send it back at my expense under the DSR's and after they test it is ok etc. they will refund me the money (but not for th posting it back).
So let me get this straight...they mislead me over the monitor being NEW and delivered to them that day, they mislead me over the warranty, they may have sent me a used monitor but I am not in a position to check it cuz I refuse to open the parcel, and they think I am going to pay to send it back!!
We will wait and see, but I have had my CC company suspend the transaction.
I haven't even been given a receipt or invoice for the transaction.
On the face of it very amateur and totally oblivious to their obligations under the DSR's, the Sale of Goods Act etc. (of course they know but are trying it on?)
Based purely on 5 days of total ignorance from them, I would say avoid, avoid, avoid at all costs.
Summary: Avoid like the plague if you want piece of mind
