Advantages: Cheap prices, Good website, Good service when taking order
Disadvantages: Poor after sales service, Website orders take twice as long
I have used Eclipse Computers now on a few occasions and their prices are very competitive and they carry a wide range of stock. They have also just opened a new website which allows you to order items and there are also a few benefits to ordering online. Why do I now recommend them to people then? Well their customer service lacks a little bit. In the 3 or 4 times that I have ordered from eclipse I have had faulty goods twice. This is probably not down to the company but I expect reasonable customer service when returning the items. My first complaint would be that their technical lines are almost impossible to get through too. You have to be quite persistent. The other complaint I have is that you have to send the faulty item back (normally costs a small fortune!) and then you have to wait for them to test it. On previous experiences it takes normally about 2 weeks for them to get a new item to you. By the way they always say that they are swamped with returned goods so it will take them a few days to test. On the plus side Eclipse Computers cannot be faulted for prices and stock. Their prices are very competitive and they even price match. Computer Micro Mart carries a four page advert each month and you can have a look in there at their prices. They have just started taking web orders as well. The benefits of ordering online are they you don't get a charge on your credit card, free delivery over £100 and you also get some free gifts like software, and joysticks when you order over a certain amount. The only problem ordering online is that the parts take longer to arrive with you. All their telephone orders take priority which is unfair really. I have ordered online once and probably would not do it again due to the overall delivery taking twice as long. As I said I use Eclipse alot but that is more down to the prices being very good. You take a chance with them but I have never had a problem with them send new it
ems. It might just take a while.

- 23/05/01 I suppose they're good if you know what you're doing. If you don't, high quality aftersales support is vital, and make sure it's free. Unlike one major high street 'retailer', who charges £1 a minute even on hold... |
