I'd wanted a DVD writer since they first came out but was always put off by the price. After coming across Eclipse's website I sat that they were offering the Writer I wanted at nearly £18 cheaper than anywhere else and that included free delivery. I thought this was too good to be true so I rang them up and asked them to confirm the price. The price was confirmed as correct so I went back to the website and ordered the Writer. I asked them on the phone how long it would take to arrive and they said upto 5 days which I thought was ok.

Unbelievably the drive actually came the next day which was fantastic but there was one small problem. There were 2 drives instead of 1. A simple ordering error I thought so I contacted them (amazingly I got through within 15 mins unlike some of the poor folk here) and told them what had happened. They sounded very helpful on the phone. They gave me an RMA number and told me to send the second drive back for a full refund. I asked how I was to return it and they said anyway I liked as long as it was recorded delivery. I said but what about the cost of returning it. They clearly said it would be refunded along with the cost of the drive. I opted to return it using the same courier company that delivered the drives and they came and collected only a few hours after recieving the drives.

They drive was ordered on a Monday, received by me on Tuesday, and received by them on Wednesday. Of course they had billed me for the extra drive and this had pushed me to the very edge of my overdraft limit and was lucky not to incur charges. It took until the following Tuesday (8 Days) to get the money refunded (whereas it only took 8 hours to go out). When the money was refunded the full amount for the drive was there but there was no refund for the return delivery cost. I rung them back and asked them why. Basically they told me the drive had been ordered twice by me and that I must have wanted to return it under the distan
ce selling regulations and that because I ordered it and changed my mind I would not be entitled to the refund for the cost of returning the drive. They were very unhelpful, utterly refused to listen to the facts that I could easily back this up with documentary evidence from my bank, ISP and email records and basically told me to get lost.

Now I did NOT. I stress NOT order that drive twice. They even sent me a confirmation email after I placed the order which clearly states 1 drive. If I did order 2 drives and change my mind about 1 of them (as they claim) then I would have no problem standing to the return carriage costs, but that is not what happened. Why the hell would I go to the trouble of registering here and typing all this out if I was not 200% sure that I am absolutely correct in this matter.

I even told the customer services manager (who's tone felt like he was distinctly trying to take this piss) and he said he would "look into it and phone me back" I replied "I won't hold my breath" He replied "You can say that but I WILL ring you back" LOL Did he ring me back?? No. I mean how much of a moron do you have to be to do that after saying "I WILL ring you back" when I said he wouldn't, and this wasn't some spotty 17 year old trainee but the customer services manager.

You could say that my problems are relatively minor compared to some, but this was my first experience with them and they screwed up to the point where the ultimate outcome is that I was out of pocket because of THEIR error. How bad does it have to get ?

Do yourself a favour and avoid this joke of a company like the plague.

Try writing the the company's managing director and enclose a printed copy of that email confirming the order of 1 drive. That might produce a better result for you.

Very poor customer services, obviously.
