Advantages: Cheap, Good range

Disadvantages: Long queues at times, Website stock differs to shop stock (Prices too?!)

Ok, I live in Coventry, and so I have used Eclipse for ages now - as they are about a 5 minute drive from me.

They have definately got better in the past few months. I have taken back about 5 things, as they were faulty, and they seem to replace them within about 10 minutes. In the past, this replacement time has been about 2 months!

Your problem with Eclipse comes when you know less about the item than they do. Read up on your problem first, and then go into the shop, and tell them your problem. If you understand phrases like "It won't POST" for a Motherboard, or something, then they will be able to identify the problem in about 5 minutes. I once had a whole system that wouldn't boot - I had bought all the part from Eclipse. So I went down, and I took the computer in. We had a nice chat whilst 2 of their tech guys and I sat down together and worked out the problem, free of charge. That experience prompted me to apply for a job there, which i didn't get unfortunately! Oh well!

Anyway, I think it's best if you live near Eclipse, as they are fine when you go in. Also, here are some good times to go into the shop:

Weekdays (non holidays): All day (except after about 16:00)
Saturday: As soon as it opens (09:00 i think), Lunchtime (12:00 - 13:00), or right at the end of the day (15:00 i think)

These times are usually the quietest.

Anyway, any horror stories with these guys - you won't find them much any more. Just keep your wits about you - and if they try and lay down the "testing fee", just say, "No, I won't pay that, i'll test it for you now, infront of you". I have done that with a few things - normally if a device won't turn on or something. I has one guy there lie to me once, saying a hub I had bought was fully functional, but I knew full well it didn't power on. So he passed it to me, and I just whacked the power supply into a socket, turned
it on, and said, "There, see". He said, "Ok, we'll refund", etc.

Sorry to hear of your problems, but seriously, they are much better now! If you live around the area, try them, they are not bad at all now-a-days!

Matt
