Advantages: Looks good on the dressing table

Disadvantages: Smells awful

Browsing my local Superdrug for bargains I spotted the Elizabeth Arden section and with it the most famous Arden product of all time, the Eight Hour Skin Protectant Cream.

Now the cream normally comes in a large 50ml white tube and costs around £22.00 but they had a smaller pinkish tube that was 30ml and cost around £10.00. I have a friend who goes horse riding a lot and swears by the use of this cream to keep the moisture in her hands over the winter so I thought I'd give the smaller tube a go......big mistake.

I really should have opened the tube to have a smell before I bought it, or at least asked my friend for a try. It smells like hospital disinfectant!!!! Not a great thing if you lather it all over your skin. It's a really strong smell that lingers for ages, they've tried to cover it up by adding Geranium essence and Citronella which probably makes it worse.

The balm is like peach coloured Vaseline and feels really greasy. The vitamin E goes some way to moisturising your skin and I have to say after applying it to a scraped elbow it did help to heal it quite quick. I really don't fancy using it on my lips or face so I think it will be getting resigned to the bottom drawer.......that's if my friend doesn't want a second tube!

I think in future I'll be sticking to a good old fashioned tub of Sudocrem for scrapes and burns and my old faithful Neutrogena hand cream for winter maintenance. At least then I won't end up smelling like a greased up hospital porter.

Summary: Buy Neutrogena Concentrated Hand Cream instead
