Advantages: compact, has a mirror

Disadvantages: heavy on dry skin

One of my friends is a beautician and gets lots of freebies when it comes to cosmetics, this Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish compact was one of the freebies she passed on to me. I have no idea of the usual price and once you read the review it will become apparent I don't need to know the price either!

On first inspection I loved it, a little compact that fits in your handbag with it's own little mirror. Great. I don't need powder on top of this either? Even better. Excellent coverage without clogging pores, brilliant. I thanked her and tucked it away in my bag.

A couple of days later, running late for work, in a panic I reached for this compact to save me time. I'm one of those people who rarely steps out of the house without make up, if I do it has to be dark and only in the garden!

The product itself is like a firm cream pressed into the compact and comes with a square sponge to apply it. I used the sponge to dab this onto my face, went into the bathroom for a look in better lighting and immediately had to wash my face.

It looked really heavy and thick on my skin so I was forced to go without foundation until lunch on that particular day.

That evening I decided to try again to see if it was the way I'd applied it or how much I'd applied. No matter what I tried it looked the same, far too heavy. I thought this might be because I have dry skin so I applied directly after moisturiser which improved it slightly but not enough for me to use it. So I temporarily gave up and reverted back to normal foundation and powder. I asked my friend if she had any suggestions but she just said it doesn't suit all skin types and I wasn't doing anything wrong.

I did however keep this compact in my bag for a while and once or twice when I needed a slight touch up to my make up I resorted to using it for small areas but I just couldn't get it to sit on my skin in a natural way and no-one wants to look like a panto dame do they?!

Eventually I threw it away. For me it was far too heavy and I was very disappointed with the product, I usually love Elizabeth Arden's cosmetics but not this time. Therefore I don't know the price as I have no intention of buying this but having looked briefly online it seems to vary from about £7 on ebay to £20 at some of the cosmetics websites. It's available in a variety of shades to suit various skin tones.

Not recommended.

Summary: Not recommended but that's just my opinion.
