Advantages: Versatile, Reliable

Disadvantages: Oily, Smelly, Expensive

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream was initially recommended to me by a close friend, the same friend who has introduced me to many of my most trusted beauty products. I have quite a strict skincare routine, I have rather sensitive skin which if neglected really can look dreadful. I didn?t instantly buy this product, I couldn?t understand what it was or how I would benefit, y?see this cream wont replace your daily moisturiser and cannot be compared to any other product I know. Anyways after much recommendation from both friend and magazine articles alike I finally took the plunge and purchased the cream. This has to be the best £18 I have ever spent on cosmetics?

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is described as a skin protectant, ideal for soothing minor skin irritations, chapped lips and hands, peeling or flaking skin due to burns such as windburn and sunburn not to mention other minor abrasions. I?ll agree the blurb sounds interesting but again doesn?t really jump out and tell you that ?You need this cream? but I?ll tell you ? you do!

Packaged in the usual Elizabeth Arden plain packaging the resale size comes in a 50ml tube priced at £18, (Other smaller sizes can sometimes be purchased as part of a set.) the cream is very thick in consistency and brown in colour, so not very appealing. As soon as you squeeze the cream from the tube a strong, aromatheric smell greets you ? personally I love the smell but it is rather strong. The cream also appears to be very, very greasy. My first impression was ?what the hell is this? but obviously after spending £18 I?m curious to get my moneys worth and find out what all the fuss is about?

The day I made the purchase my skin was feeling irritated, nothing unusual for me as air pollution, central heating and the usual daily elements just take their toll but with me that can be rather irritating and uncomfortable? Not anymore! After cleansing and toning I substituted this in place of my daily moisturiser a
nd instantly my skin feels soothed. Since then, I?ve not looked back and this Eight Hour Cream has pride of place amongst my other beauty regime favourites!

So what do I use it for?

1) Weekly skin boost ? not to be mistaken for your daily moisturiser the cream can be used as a booster when you?re skin is feeling tired, irritated or stressed. Basically I wouldn?t recommend you go out and about as a full face of the cream will certainly leave you looking, not alone feeling rather ?greasy?. I did worry about whether the oiliness would give me spots but with 6 months continual use it hasn?t. My skin is left glowing and feeling rehydrated let alone looking healthy.

2) Lip balm ? a tiny, minute amount of this cream will transform your lips. You don?t need much and the shine outshines any lip balm or gloss I?ve tried in the past! Recommended! Lasts all day!

3) Hair gloss! - Now before I go on, this wont suit you all! Basically I use this on the ends of my hair. Having naturally curly hair which is also naturally dry the ends of my hair can frizz. I use the cream sparingly to gloss the ends. It works and boy have I tried many a product to sort out the ends of my hair!

4) My nails! ? I don?t know what it is but I?ve got bloody awful hands and feet. My nails never look healthy. I put this down to having dry hair, I have dry nails (they?re both made up of keratin) anyway a tiny little bit of this rubbed in to your nails and bingo! Healthy nails and I?m no longer ashamed!

5) Sunburn ? the must for any holiday! After spending a week in Tenerife with 3 others earlier this year the only saviour for our sunburn was this! Praise the lord for Elizabeth Arden. The cream has 2 main uses in the sun soothing and reducing sunburn and not to mention eliminating peel. I ALWAYS peel? Not anymore, this is 100% better than any after sun I?ve ever tried.

6) Mosquito bites ? Another holiday related usage ? soothes any bites, repels
any mossies! Wah ? hoo, this stuff works a treat!

7) Eyebrow and cheek highlighter ? I don?t shape my eyebrows, I don?t see the need and I can?t be arsed with the upkeep. A little of this beauty and your brows are well looked after. A little across the cheek bone again gives a subtle, colourless glow? Just like in the magazines!

8) Spot check! ? Yep at 28 I still get spots, a little of this on any spot helps draw and eliminate any major marks. I use this on isolated spots as required, morning and night.

Sold? No? Go away! Personally I don?t actually know what I did before I discovered Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. It lasts months and for £18 I reckon it should have pride of place in every woman?s cosmetic bag. 2 factors (other than price) that may put you off is the strong herbal smell and the oiliness of the actual cream so do sample before purchase.

Ingredients are not listed on the tube so I?d recommend you place any queries with the Elizabeth Arden consultant in your local department store or chemist that stocks the range. I have moderately sensitive skin and I find this a help rather than an irritant.

File under remarkable!

A* review ! I bought it just recently after reading your review! It is great stuff!! The way I describe it to peeps, is that it has the colour and consistency of ear wax!! Its true! I like the idea of layering it on as a 'face mask' ( decadence ay?!! ) style skin boost! Great review-Congrats on the crown!

Sian Lloyd using it in "I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here" put me off buying it as she was always using it and had a really greasy face the whole time!
