For 3 summers in a row I have registered my availability with the agency stating that I would like office work or light industrial (Post Office sorting).

They seem to have lots of jobs in the windows advertising temporary jobs but when I go in they say "We haven't got anything in at the moment but we will ring you when we have something suitable". What happens? Well after a week of hearing nothing they ring and say they have production line work. Not what I want! They never seem to look at my preferences and just offer me anything that comes along. When I reject this they don't offer me anything else all summer!

What a waste of time.

It's the same with Adecco here in the United States - they often seem very scatterbrained and unclear about what they have to offer, both to companies and to temp workers. For example a few years ago I went back to them when it was very hard to find work in my area, and found that although they had advertisements in all the papers saying what great jobs they had, in practice they had almost nothing to offer anyone for six weeks on end.

I've gotten some good jobs with them but I'm very dissatisfied because they don't seem to keep track of who any of their workers are. I did great call center work for them for a few days in a town twenty minutes away and naively thought that the call center company was sure to say something to Adecco about what great work I'd done. I even screwed up my courage enough to ask - and my Adecco office dismissively said that they didn't track jobs that were outside of their area. Outside of their area? They sent me to the job! There are places in OUR city that are twenty minutes away - do they track jobs there?

It reminded me how they didn't seem to keep track of how well anyone had done anywhere - we weren't individuals who the folks in the office knew and matched up with the right job, we were part of a faceless interchangeable army of workers that they assumed could all do the same work. This week I went back and talked to them in the office, and did the testing on my computer at home, and emailed my associate twice with my resume and then to let her know I was taking the tests... no response... and then when I called her today to ask if she'd had a chance to look at my tests and hopefully to get work, she didn't remember who I was at all! Not even after five minutes of discussion about whether I had come in and whether she had sent me those tests herself (!)... she finally told me she would have to "do some research" and call me back. What on earth!
