I joined blue arrow shortly after graduating. The intention was that I would find myself an entry level job and build from there. I happened to drop in and had not made a prior appointment but the guy I met seemed very friendly and advised me that I needed to fill out a form first which concerned my personal details as well as trying to identify what I was looking for.
After filling it in, I returned it and the informal discussion began. I explained to him that I was looking for an accounting job or an administration job which incorporated aspects of accountancy. He asked me if I would also consider other positions including telesales to which I replied I would. However despite the fact that I had already detailed the answer in the answers i had provided on the form, he asked if I had any previous experience and seemed disappointed when I said no.
I provided the person with my mobile number and expected him to be in contact. After there was no contact after the intial month, I thought my best course of action would be to send a short informal email to him. Unfortunately there was no response from this email and therefore a week later I rang up. I did not speak to the same person this time but a different recruitment consultant. When he had introduced himself he wanted to establish what experience I had which seemed more than a little irritating since all he needed to was open the C.V I had already sent them.
We had an informal chat and of course he said that he would contact me when relevant positions came up and contact me every so often just to up date my circumstances. At this moment I was becoming increasingly disillusioned but some 2 months later I did indeed have a call but this time it was another consultant who told me about a job which had just come in wanted to know if i was interested and wanted to know if I had the following experience!
At this moment I lost my cool a little and demanded to know why I was being ignored and then when I was contacted why prior checks had not been made first to establish whether there was any point in the call. I could continue in the same vein for the years which passed but history has unfortunately repeated itself.
If I had a lot of previous experience I would have been more to their liking and would have had more success with them
Disorganised, incompetent or lazy, I am not sure which or probably both and clearly lacking in basic customer service skills which is of course very ironic.
I simply don't bother with these anymore as it's a waste of my time
I have been unemployed for a few months and have tryed everything to get a job, applied to lots of places, phoned lots of companies went to interviews but nothing was successful.
Ive heard of people finding work through agencies and was told about Blue Arrow so decided to give it ago. When I went there I had to give in a form which id previously filled out. The lady who dealt with me was very friendly and polite. After then I had to wait for a while for my references to write my reference. I then recieved a phone call from Blue Arrow saying I had work starting from the next day which was Wednesday to Friday, I thought to my self great Ive now got work. When Friday came I recieved a text message saying im working the Monday. By the time Monday was over I had not recieved no text and th manager at the place where I was working at came up to me and said you will be in for the rest of the week so I thought to my self thats great I know ive got work for the rest of the week but about 30 mins later he came back and said you will be in tomorrow, Wednesday and Friday because thats all I need you for, I thought to myself well that aint that bad its only 1 day ill be missing out on.
When Wednesday came there was another person from an agency which I was told he was just covering for someone who was off that day. By the end of the day I asked someone who was there what he was like and he said hes not as good as me. There was already another new person started who rand up the campany and asked if they had any work an they said yes so he works for the company and not the agency. The manager came up to me and said are you OK not to work Thurday and I said yeah thats fine but am I working next week and he said probally not.
Friday came and I was speaking to the new guy who works for the campany and said if im not working next week then who are you going to be with so he went and asked the person in the office and he comes back and says the guy who was working Wednesday. When he said that I was well angry because he was only suppose to be there for 1 day and they are replacing me with someone whos not as good as me.
I have not had any work for nearly a week now so I rang up blue arrow and said whats happening with this job and she said you will get work when they have a slot available so I thought well thats not good because I might not get any work for a month so shall I go back on Job seekers because it may be better off in the long run. So now im sitting here not knowing when I will be working again.
Blue Arrow has not kept me informed very well on the situtation and when I was working I only knew one day in advance. I say only work for agency if its the very last option because you get messed around too much. Im currently looking for a more better, reliable job at present.
Being in the need of a job I have tried out a few agencies recently and one of them has been Blue Arrow. They have many jobs listed outside their shop window with a number of jobs in different sectors available.
The main branch I have visited is in Manchester and that has been a success for me.On my visit here I had to fill out few details and then go finish a test on the computer.Once that was done on the computer I was given a small interview and sent home.
Managed to get a temporary job of them to work in a call centre. I can comment on how fast they are in making payment they are good to say the least about them! I have enjoyed working for them as they provided some fantastic help on my job. At the end of each day they gave me a phone call to make sure I was doing well at the job. Also every payment was done early into my bank account on a Friday afternoon and wage slips were sent home fast.
They also pay you for overtime at a good rate but its limited to a few jobs only. I think Blue Arrow are very friendly to every member that joins up with them. They are one of few recruitment companies I have had success with and would recommend them to any one who has not yet signed up with them.
With Blue Arrow, it seems, your experience mainly depends on where you sign up with them, which could mean that it's up to the staff. The first time I worked for Blue Arrow was in Edinburgh in 1996. I was temping for them and had no lack of work whatsoever from day one. Since I just moved to Scotland from Germany then, I was quite desperate for money (the exchange rate DM/£ was a joke), I rold them I'd do as many hours as they could give me. And they sure gave me enough - I worked and average of about 50hrs. a week. After a few weeks I wanted a break - no problem there either. So I took a couple of weeks off and then informed them that I was available again - and sure enough - I got plenty of work again straight away. The staff were generally very helpful and friendly and we even had a few parties in the office (after hours, of course). I moved to Oz for a couple of years then, and in 1998 I came back to Scotland, this time settled in Glasgow though. Having had that good an experience with Blue Arrow in Edinburgh, they were obviously the first choice for me again, so I registered with them again, and - never heard anything regarding a job - neither temp nor permanent. After 6 or 7 visits to the office, asking, if anything was happening and getting a big NO for an answer, I gave up. And this lack of work was definitely no slow market or anything like that, since the papers and jobcentres were packed with ads. So my conclusion would absolutely be - it's the staff that make all the difference!
