Advantages: good if you care about people, dont do it just for the money..
Disadvantages: if you are not interested in people.
I wish I had studied to be a Solicitor, but not just for the reward of money. my aunt was just like me ,she was disabled with spina bifida, and while she was alive, she used to help what used to be called the *Claimants union* in the Brighton area. This was a charitable body that helped people that currently had no money ,and no food to get the benefit they needed, she met someone one day that was living on custard ,and soon got help for her. Im afraid there are not such charities around anymore, well there is the C.A.B .,they often lack knowledge needed I find . I had to spend 11 days pouring over law books to sort out the finer points of how to suceed to a secure tenancy about three years ago ,once again I couldnt find a legal aid Solicitor. There are still so many people still out there that need legal help and are not obtaining it. How do I know this because I have just spent several days trying to get a Solicitor for a relative ,that has been falsly accused ,you know how many people this happens to now if you have watched TV the last 3 days . I phoned about forty Solicitors ,and the law society,to no avail, then one kind Gentleman Solicitor told me why:because the Government isnt paying them enough. Is there any Solicitor out there ,that is dedicated to helping people for the love of it ? So this Career can be recomended especially for those that care about their fellow man I somehow think not ,thats what I would have loved to do . Incidentally the *which* guide books to law are good in your nearest library .

- 06/11/03 Honestly...you don;t wish you had studied to be a solicitor! I did, but have now run a mile from the profession...the study is sheer hell and you have to be 100% willing to live law as your whole life...I agree that some lawyers do charge waaaaay too much, but many of them do really earn it. Good luck with your quest for an underpaid lawyer though! |
