ManpowerNewest Review: ... who was bi-lingual in English and Italian left, about as dejected and infuriated as I did. Terrible. But the Manpower saga didn't end there. To cut a very long story short, they hold a contract with a company called CapGemini in Birmingham (Aston to be precise) which is a multi-faceted contract for IT helpdesks for various civil service agencies. After seeing the job advertised in the Evening paper, I decided to apply, well, after waiting 1/2 an hour in a reception area and watching the poor souls come off shift, i realized that this definitely wasn't a 'cream contract' not for a measly 6 quid an hour ... paupers pay. The interview was apall... more |

Feel sorry for the guys at Manpower as they report to a geek called Greg Hollis. He is basically a brown-noser who alienates all those below him in the company structure and throws his cloak over puddles for all his superiors. The Birmingham New Street office cannot keep hold of it's staff due to the pathetic way that it is managed and it hasn't made a profit in years, yet the guy who is deemed responsible for it is still at the helm. Qu'est-ce que c'est?

My experience with Manpower, certainly doesn't mirror the last posting, I find it hard to believe that US companies (reknown for being the WORST in the world to work for regarding benefits and other material employment matters) like Manpower are any different from most, if not all other agencies. I'll give two example scenario's and you the jury make your mind up. A colleague and I went to Birmingham 2nd week of October 2006 on a job hunt and decided to 'hit' all the agencies we could, so, smartly dressed and with a bundle of CV's in tow each we descended on the epicentre of the West Midlands - and wished we'd never bothered. Several agencies were ... Read the complete review

I signed on at Manpower in Winchester almost immediately after I got back from university this year. I was officially on their 'books' - before I got sick of waiting and got my own job - for about a month, and in that time I was only offered two jobs, or assignments as they are properly called. One was a night shift at a mail-order firm, and the other was something involving chickens and an industrial vacuum cleaner. Not a wide and varied selection there, I think you'll agree. I did take the night shift job - it was for one night only -and I did find that what the company did, they did efficiently. I was telephoned the day I was to have the job, and ... Having studied a lot and bummed around even more I've tried most agencies, but I always come back to Manpower. In the US they have a guarantee that they will find anyone a job for an hour, after that it's up to you to keep it! Manpower were the only agency willing to take me on when I had no office experience. OK so it was an apalling job, entering binary code day in day out for two weeks, but it kept my bank manager happy. As an international chain they have contacts all over the place, and are quite helpful about putting you in touch with other branches when you are moving on. Even in the grim days around the early nineties Manpower ... Read the complete review
