Do you spend years and years training, cleaning cod-pieces and learning lines, then serve an apprenticeship to a master, who served their own apprenticeship to a master? Actually, no, you simply say I m a professional actor . Doing so, doesn t make you any money or give people the desire to ask for your autography, it certainly doesn t put food on the table. NATFHE (The University & College Lecturers' Union) ... is the union for teachers in further and higher education, that is in colleges of further education and in universities. Their headquarters are based in London but most colleges/unis have their own local reps who can advise on any problems or queries. If they are unable to help personally they will contact someone on your behalf who can help. The subscriptions to this union vary according to the amount of work you do, for example if you are a part time hourly paid college lecturer then your fees will be based on that.
