Advantages: thorough, good attitude, positive
Disadvantages: London
I must confess I had never heard of Witan Jardine before I started seeing their name at the bottom of a number of jobs being referred to me by one of the online jobsearch sites. After I realised that this agency seemed to have a pretty good selection of jobs which I was capable of doing I thought it might be an idea for me to get on to their books, so I sent off my CV. Very quickly I received a phone call asking me to come up to London for an interview. I don't wknow what it is about big agencies in town, but they always seem to be able to fit you in at very short notice but all the local agencies I used could only see me a week on Friday, or whatever. Anyhow, I went to their offices in Holborn and boy were they plush. Its always a good sign to me if a recruitment agency is based in smart offices, it shows that they must be shifting the right volume of jobs to support their own lifestyle. My view is the opposite if I am temping, because it means that they are taking too big a margin out of the price they are charging the client, in other words they are paying me too little. In a permanent job its different. The consultant I saw was very thorough, again she was quite realistic about my age, but not downbeat. She told me that it would take time, but the jobs were out there. She also said something stunning in its simplicity, one word which made me feel 10 feet tall. When I was leaving she said to me, "Don't worry if you do not hear from me for 3 or 4 weeks, I never forget a client." I was her client, not the guy providing the job, she was working for ME to get ME a job. That's the way it came over and the way it felt. Normally I am the candidate, the client is the guy with the job to be filled. This made a refreshing change. So far she has not got me any interviews yet, but I am quietly confident she will.
