Advantages: Colleague discount card (10%)

Disadvantages: Customers, hours, managers, pay & working conditions

Took a job there in desperation working as a home shopper. Picking was a doddle apart from being distracted by customers with requests. The managers were a mixed bag, some nice while others had a superiority complex towards colleagues and were unprofessional to say the least. The home shopping department at my store was seen by some managers as a dept that wasn't needed, so it never got any support when things were bad. This resulted in working extra hours under difficult circumstances for little or no thanks, and you also need to keep an eye on the payslip to make sure you got paid for any overtime as you're constantly reminded on noticeboards that the store has overspent on wages. The huddles I endured were a joke and only served as a reminder to keep looking for a better job. The only thing good about the place was some of the colleagues who I hope have done the same thing I did, get a job with a half decent employer.

Summary: While you're there keep looking at those job vacancies

Maybe a bit unfair on those who work at Asda long term. For some it's just what they need to bring in long term extra income. I know someone who's been working at Asda since last year and she seems very happy there and said her colleagues and superiors are all very pleasant compared to her previous job working customer services at an airport...

I disagree with the comment below - it is useful to prospective emloyees to say what you do and what it feels like. You don't need to say about the store there's another category for that!

It might help prospective employees to learn how easy it is to get the job and an idea of the kinds of hours you can expect to work. What is the time off policy and so on.
