Advantages: Great pay, Great people and great discount

Disadvantages: Some odd customers

I have read reviews of asda on this site and the newest one is about two years old now, so I thought it was time someone put some new information up for you all, especially if you are considering a full-time/part time job there.

I applied after finding out about the vacancy on jobcentreplus, I attended the group interview which included some teamwork testing and they were seeing how well you got on with people, They said they would get back to me within 2 weeks but it was more like 5, I was relieved to hear back from them, then I went to my local store to attend the 'have a go interview' this is where they put you on a till and you served some customers, they want to see how well you interact with people and if you did a good job, It was easy and I got excellent for all the categories, I also had to identify items and write down the isle number, after that I went to the interview room and discussed what hours I could work and what past experience I had, I left that interview happy and had a call saying I got the job the very next day.

Your experience with differ from every store you are at, but the one thing that doesn;t change are the people you work with, its a known fact that most of your colleagues will be nice people who you will get on with, no matter what age you are, you will get on with most people.

I have not been working in asda long, I took a part time job at a new store and I was given evenings, 3.5 hours each, 5 days a week, you may think these are to many days but for someone like me who goes to college and needs to run a car etc, its perfect :) and the past reviews has said you have to sing the asda theme tune and do all this tacky stuff etc, That no longer exists thank god, you just come in to work, say hi to everyone, find out which till you are on, then take over.

I work on checkouts, I was given a few days training, I did have the opportunity to have more training but I thought I would progress faster going alone, asking for help when I needed, you pick up all the codes for the fruit and veg and before long you will only have to glance at the code sheet once a day for the odd aubergine for example.

Most the people you serve will be happy as long as you act happy towards them, But you get a few arrogant people who just leave trolleys and give you a bit of an attitude for doing your job, Something asda is encouraging now is for people to reuse bag, so the bags are kept under the till and you have to give them out and ask if they would like a free bag or a bag for life, the amount of people who say 'well yeaaa, how will I carry it home???' Its just unnecessary when they could just say 'free bag please' you will also get sick and tired of them saying 'I have plenty at home/in car' we don't care if you don't have any we are just giving you the option.

The pay is great, over 18's get £5.91 an hour which is amazing for sitting at a till, after 12 weeks you get a 10% discount card for you and someone in your household and I believe you get a pay raise to £6.08 an hour, that may be after 6 months though.

So the conclusion is that asda is a great place to work, there is always plenty of overtime so If I was you I'd apply for the minimum hours you can work then just ask for overtime, If you have any questions just leave a comment and I'll reply to it :)

EDIT:

Need to mention other things!
When you work for Asda you will always be asked to do other jobs, not difficult but just be expected to do them, like collecting the rubbish from the tills, collecting the tags, giving out back etc etc
Thanks

Summary: Work there whether you are in school or want full time work, you won't regret it
