Advantages: Cheap Lunch, Friendly staff

Disadvantages: Same work

I did a summer internship at John Lewis Partnership in 2000 and it was probably the worst job I have done to date. During the talk they mentioned that Internships will be actively working on "different project", and their skills will be matched accordingly to the kind of work they will do. As I was an IT internship, I had a lot of knowledge of computers, and hence I wanted to do some programming. Instead, for the entire 3 months I was only doing data entry, which was extremly boring. There was potential for me to do Pearl, and I was at my manager, telling her I want to do more, but she kept saying "next week, I will give you something new". Hence when I applied for my gradutate job, I had to extend the truth about my responsibilites, and what I did. The office environment was very strict, no personal calls, not allowed to use Internet/email for personal use etc

However on the bright side, the staff were helpful/kind, lunch was nice and cheap, had many breaks (tea, breakfast, lunch)

You're there to work not play about with the net and email. Ooops, that's like the pot calling the kettle black :-)

You don't mention that the company is owned by its employees, a good thing surely?
