Advantages: good friends,good laughs,nights out
Disadvantages: hard work, the smell, putting weight on
I love my job very much, I take pride in my job, and as a manager I make sure all my staff around me do the same. I always ensure the customers are treated with respect and are served what they asked for in the quickest time possible, but as other people who work in any kind of environment were customers are involved, this is not always to the customer’s satisfaction.
I work for mc Donald’s and have done for nearly five years; in that time iv learned that in this world there are a lot of stuck up, iggnorant snobs who think that they are much better than you because you work in a restaurant!
iv had the usual stuck up adults, those what tut and sigh whilst there waiting for there orders (like were going to go faster if you do that!!!!!!)iv had a women moaning at me because the service wasn’t up to speed(her words)little did she realise that when you come in and order nearly £20 worth of food and decide that how it is on the menu is not good enough, and order everything to your liking, does take a little longer than the normal service time(which is in total 3 mins,or 3mins 30 if you go through a drive thu.we do always try are best to make sure that people are served in that time, but some times its difficult during really busy times)
I kindly explained to her that we had a lot of staff ill and off at the time, and that the guys we had were doing the best they could, that of course wasn’t good enough! No matter how hard you try, you can not please every one, and mc Donald’s does try to please every one, from older people wanting just a coffee and a news paper to young ones wanting a party. the party staff have a hard job, not my cup of tea running round after loads of loud kids, but they love it, even I must admit its nice to see children happy+parents taking five minutes to them selfs, being able to sit back and watch some one else make there child happy. I myself am more than happy to chat to an adult over the counter about life’s little ups and downs.
but on the downside iv had to put up with young kids coming in and playing up, we even had a kid slinging food around the area, when we kicked them out, there parents had the cheek to ring up and question it! You must under stand that we do not want are customers and there children in that environment.
iv put up with people coming in the store, hammered on booze and spewing up or using the floor as a toilet(so very true! and guess whose had to clean it up!!!!!) giving the staff abuse, swearing, trying to fight, trying to touch the girls up and generally giving the staff a hard time, I under stand its the result of being tanked up, but its still not nice
iv seen people using the toilets as a drug house, leaving needles, foil anything drug related in there,iv seen it all.iv also had to clean up behind them when they leave needles in the toilet, blood on the walls/floor. I no some one who emptied a bin and stabbed them self on a used needle that had been dumped, thank god they were ok in the end. but ofcourse,we do all of the this to protect the customers, because contrary to what you think,mc Donald’s does care about the people what come through the doors, staff and customers. The company hold all sorts of meetings and courses to help staff deliver very good customer service.ofcourse the odd few staff doesn’t do this, that is down to the individual, we can’t force some one to smile, as much as I try!
Another one of my pet hates people who say they ate a product of ours, and later was sick from it. You can not get sick from eating our food, all of the chicken products come pre cooked, and frozen, and it’s just a case of re cooking, like you do with frozen meals/food. Meat is cooked to the highest standards, before it even gets served its checked and tested to ensure the customer is satisfied and it’s safe. we have a book we fill in every few hours, were you check all the temps of food the time it takes to cook, just to make sure that the food we are serving is safe each time we serve it. some people think its just a case off flipping some burgers and tossing on a bit of sauce, not true, when you start, you go through all sorts of training, even being shown the tiniest things, like how much salt goes on fries!theres all these different things you have to learn before dressing a sandwhich.you have to no how much big mac sauce goes on the bun(15mls,just in case your wondering) to how much lettuce goes on a mc chicken sandwich(21gs)its a long process which is tested time and time again, we have what we call ocl's(observation check list's) these are done every day on staff to make sure there following all rules and guide lines. Any one who doesn’t do well on these is retrained.
Some people have commented on smells? I personally don’t think Macs smells, but then again I haven’t been in to every restaurant, but in my restaurant and hopefully many more, theres a lot of different cleaning jobs that are ment to be done each and every day/night. On dining area, the staff have lots to do besides moving trays; they even have to clean inside bins! Again we have check lists for this. We even have mystery diners that come in as a regular customer and we get marked on everything from enough straws being out to how fizzy the drink is.
Mc Donald’s is not an easy job, and it’s not a rubbish job we give to spotty kids, which is another stereo type. from just serving on tills you can work your way up to so many different levels earning enough money to give you a good life, just running a store is a min wage of £30.000 per year, not bad for burger flipping'
of course it has its down falls, doesnt every company? but we are a multi billion pound company who takes pride in being the best restaurant experience (not a fast food restaurant-there’s no such thing)we are so much cleaner than other company’s and have a good choice+good value(well they try!)
so next time you come in, sit back and watch what every ones doing,il promise you its working hard. And if you have a problem, dont think about letting use no, but not by blazing and screaming, by speaking like adults.
thank you for reading my review and i hope you leave a comment.
Summary: please let me know what you think

- 07/04/06 I'd second the comment below. How do you find the corporation as an employer? |
|
- 02/04/06 p.s. I'd rated only SH as the review is supposed to be about McDonalds as an employer - how they treat their staff, whether they pay well, provide good training, etc. You've basically used the review to air your grievances about customers. |

- 02/04/06 It's nice to see someone loyal to their employer and not afraid to write about it :) Personally I've always found the service very slow and unprofessional in the 2 local McDonalds where I live and obviously this has affected trade as 1 closed down a few weeks ago and the other one is closing shortly. If customers are no happy they can go elsewhere and this is what's happened around here.
As sirg0508 recommends below, please run your text through a spell-checker. It makes it difficult to follow a review with so many typos and spelling errors :) |
