Advantages: free medical service, clean, honest, hard working.

Disadvantages: unwanted expenses on advertising

National Health Service celebrated its 60th anniversary this year since it was established in 1948 to tackle the destruction from world war. It had to fix issues relating to water born diseanse, widespread infections and wounded souldiers.

NHS has seen a drastic change since it was first established. It is ment to be world's best health service but unfortunately it hasnt been upto the expectations. There are many reasons for that and we clearly shouldnt just blame it on NHS.

The 60million population to be served under one organisation is not easy at all. I work in West London Hospital and I know how hard we work to meet our goals. I would neither say short of staff should be blamed because NHS is governed by a law and has limited funds available. Its as simple as that- pay more to get more.

Britain has seen free medical service since last half century. USA, India, China or any other country dont have such free medical facility , so we should be proud of what we got. The NHS staff are very friendly and try to resolve much problems but then again it is not easy for patients to cooperate with staff from diffferent communities.

I work in a London hospital and our hospital is fully equiped with latest technology heath equipents. The staff are very hard working. One thing which most of the people dont know is that the hospital staff are vunerable to attacks by upset and mentally abnormal people. They should be praised for their hard work instead of blaming for not to meet the demands.

AS PER REQUESTED BY FELLOW MEMBER :
My job includes working with the patients and make a list of their basic requirements during their stay in the hospitals, such as soap, towel, brush, hairspray, bodyspray, drinks, magazines, newspapars etc and provide them (ofcourse, in return of money). The fellow staff are very supportive and likewise I help them with interpreting with patients who come from South Asian background since I understand and speak Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Urdu. So sometime I help them explaining what the patient want to inform the nurses and similarly what nurses want them to do.

I am clearly not anyone who would tell people what to do, but a polite advise is that visit a hospital one day not as a visitor but as a patient and you will experience the wonderful community of NHS.

Summary: I support our own NHS, do you?

There are many good points with regards to the NHS, but time and time again I witness the service being cash strapped and waiting lists rise and rise. I have been told I have shin splints. I have been told I need to see a physiotherapist. I have also been told I have an 18 week wait.
I have had an eating disorder, my weight was chronicly low. I was told I needed to be in hospital. I was also told the waiting list was around 4 months- usually it is 6, I was lucky, literally because it was christmas.

Yes its free, but that does not mean its perfect and we should not complain. It needs to change, this does not mean current staff are not doing a good job, nor that we are not grateful for what we do have. It simply means things need to change.
