Advantages: If your family works there...
Disadvantages: If your family doesn't work there...
I have applied for a job at Tesco three times and my boyfriend has done twice and we have both been unsuccessful. On the three occassions I tried I actually only got sent an application form once!
If you walk around my local store it is a bit like some strange horror movie. You notice that the majority of the members of staff look strangely alike. At first you think it's you imagination but you begin to notice it every time you go. You wonder if this is a 'special' store where they are testing robots or something else straight out of a strange B movie horror story.
Then it hits you and everything falls into place. They only employ you if you have a member of you family working there. For instance I know many husbands and wifes who work there, numerous brothers and sisters and it even stretches out to cousins and aunts and uncles. I even know someone who was offered a job with no application form submitted or an interview. Her son works there and the managers' asked him if his mum wanted a job there.
I personally think this is a very unfair practise as geniune people who want to work or not give a fair chance. My boyfriend has been out of work for seven months now and would gladly work there, so maybe we'll have to get someone to pretend they are related!
Summary: An unfair practise to those who want to work
