Advantages: money's good, staff are friendly, good nights out,

Disadvantages: not many perks, discount's a bit fiddly.

My brother worked at Tesco before i did as he was a couple of years older, so when i got to the age of having to find a part time job, i really didn't fancy working there. Not because he worked there, but because the place and the staff didn't look inviting or friendly, and it just seemed like the last place i would want to work. However, i was forced to hand in an application form anyway (thanks mum!) in the vain hope i would get a job.

I actually applied for a few jobs that summer when i turned 16 and i ended up getting a job in another shop, but just a saturday afternoon shift. The money was terrible (well below what i expected) and the work was terrible. On one day, my entire 4 hour shift comprised of me standing next to the changing rooms checking people weren't stealing stuff as they had a shoplifter that week who stole 3 pairs of jeans by wearing them all at the same time (no joke).

Anyway, after about 5-8 weeks of this, i got a call from Tesco asking me in for an interview, and i jumped at the chance. I got offered a job on the checkouts which was 2 evenings a week, and a saturday shift, which was 3 times more hours than i was on at the other place and the money was pretty much double the rate too, so it was a no brainer.

I must admit that at first i was scared and i didn't like it at all. But the more confidence i got, and the more friendly and familiar the customers became, then the job really was enjoyable. The perks were ok, holiday was pretty easy to get when you liked, and swapping shifts was pretty easy too.

Even when i went to University, i would come back in the holidays and there would be a job waiting for me when i came home, whether it be on Home Shopping, produce, wines and spirits, wherever they needed the help really.

An excellent company to work for.

Summary: I would really encourage people to look into working there.

I was a Sainsbury's girl myself - Tesco's sounds pretty much the same! Nice review!
