      Stick to shaving

As I'm sure every girl knows, any hair on you, other than on your head, is a big no no. I hate it, and I've always hated the fact that the only quick and easy method available was to shave it, only for it to regrow about a day later. There were of course other, more fussy methods of getting rid, such as the cream which didn't work on my thick stubborn hair and waxing which is, if you go to a salon, embarassing, expensive and really hurts. The at-home waxing strips are maybe cheaper but still hurt and are rubbish. I have also looked into permanant hair removal, but I can't have it as I'm not loaded. I thought I'd just have to keep shaving all my life until an advert came on the telly for the Braun Silk Epil epilator. It sounded really good. Apparantly removing hair smaller than a grain of sand (wow) and the best bit is it wouldn't grow back as quick or as thick. But, I thought, what on earth was an epilator? So I did a bit of research on the internet and found out it was like a plucking device. There were loads of little tweezers inside of it that plucked the hair out really fast. Lots of people were really rating the silk epil one as one so I nipped out and bought one. Good points *Hair doesn't grow back as thick or as fast* tried this on my underarms (which REALLY hurt by the way) and it didn't grow back for 1-2 weeks. Now I know this doesn't sound that good, but it takes time for the epilators effects to really show, you have to do it for a great while until its weeks on end that the hair is a no-show for. It was really fantastic to have a bath and not worry about having to shave. I can be washed in an instant. *Saves money in the long run* I'm a bit of a cheapo when it comes to hair removal, why spend loads down the salon when you can get rid at home for less? I know you don't get the serene 'experience' but I have more money which I'm more happier about. Think how much you can save in just one month not alone one year. No more razors or shaving gel (if you shave) no more cream, and no more paying shedloads at the salon (if you wax). It may be a bit expensive initially when buying the epilator but that more than makes up for the amount you'll save by using this instead. *The light* The little white light on it is awesome. It lets you see the hairs that you'd most normally miss in natural light. Good little gadget! *Both wet and dry* You can use this product both in and out the water. Personally I would recommend it in the water, it hurts much less. Bad points *Not so great on legs* The problem with your legs is that they are such a big area that it takes ages to epilate them and most of the time you notice afterwards that you've missed quite a few. Sometimes you can go over and over a hair but it just won't come out! Also the advert where it says it can lift out a hair as small as a grain of sand, that is soo wrong. It can struggle pulling out a reasonably sized hair. *It really hurts for the first couple of go's* And I mean it really does. When I read the reviews where everybody was saying it hurts, I just thought that they were just people with low pain thresholds, I mean how painful would pulling a couple of hairs out at a time be? I've waxed a whole area of hairs before and it hasn't really hurt so a few at a time shouldn't be so bad. How wrong I was. It kills. Especially on your ankles and definitely on your underarms. I haven't tried it on my bikini nor do I want to ever dare to. The pain does lessen as you go on, but you have to have very strong willpower to get through the first couple of go's. *It seems to have the opposite effect on me* For one of my good points I said that it took 1-2 weeks for my underarm hair to grow back, but the more I've seemed to have used it, the less time it takes for the hair to grow back. It's only a couple of days and the hairs have already grown back. When I bought the epilator I was told the amount of time would increase between epilation not decrease!! Now its the same as shaving but still more painful. Very disappointed. All in all, it is a good idea in theory, but the outcome was not as expected. My hairs still grow back after a short amount of time and it still hurts. Shaving may be a real pain but I still prefer it over epilating. You don't have to concentrate on getting every hair with shaving, it can be over with in seconds. It also doesn't live up to the claims of getting hair out as small as a grain of a sand. Total lies.

easy to use, very good gadget.

Having received this from my hubby for my birthday, first I thought-Oh what a painful present!! BUT- since having received it, it has done me great good! This epilator is easy to use and has a number of attachments, which makes your life so much easier! The attachments included are those for epilating underarms, arms/legs and also trimming and shaving. I do find the epilator quite noisy-which means I am rather hesitant to use it when my two little children are sleeping peacefully, but epilating with this gadget means I dont need to worry about hair for weeks. The Braun epilator removes the hair very efficiently and the wipes they provide are very refreshing and certainly a help to ease the pain. I do love the colour too- white..it's an unsual colour to have your epilator in as so many gadgets are in darker shades today..but it looks very posh and it is also extremely easy to clean. The epilator also comes with a small brush which aids in cleaning the epilator and getting rid of any small hairs. It is also worth going through the instructions booklet to know what you can and cannot do with this gadget and how and how not to use it!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Epillating can be a long and painful process, but stick with it as it gets easier!

This is my first epilator. I bought it as I was concerned about the damage shaving was doing to my skin and I was also fed up of my hair growing back after a few days. I have had salon waxes which I loved the results of but they were costly and messy. I thought this epilator would be similar to a wax but without the mess, as it seems to do the same thing; it pulls the hair out at the root instead of just cutting it. So let's just say, I had really high hopes! The epilator comes in a box with an instruction manual, a few interchangeable hands, a cleaning brush and nice little pouch to put them in. It's quick and easy to get out and it doesn't take up much space. I admit, I went into this blind, I had no idea about the pain, all I knew were the adverts and the short description on Amazon. I plugged it in and turned it on, it was loud and very intimidating! I was frightened to put this anywhere near my skin but I counted slowly and went for it. Ouch! The first time I used this it hurt so much. It felt like I was being stung all over my legs by tiny bees. My heart sank, I thought I had gotten it wrong and this wasn't the answer to the beautiful hair-free legs I had hoped for, but I had spent so much money on this I was determined to get it to work so I researched and practiced using it. You really have to give this product a chance and to not be put off from your first experience with it. I have been using this for over a year now, it used to take me hours to do both legs and now it can take me 15mins and without a head attachment (yes I use it without any attachments now as it gets closer to the skin!). It took a long time for me to get to this stage but I'm so glad that I stuck with it. Over the year that I've been using this I've learnt what lessens the pain. First, you will need to use the right head attachment. The ones that have the rollers are best to start with. Before removing hair, massage your skin with the rollers to get your blood flowing - this helps to lessen the pain slightly. Second, this hurts less when you are removing short and fine hair. I don't leave huge gaps between epilating sessions. I like to use this every few weeks. Eventually your hair will start growing back finer too. Third, using this regularly also helps to build up your pain threshold. If I stop using it for a long time it can really hurt again. For a really good finish I epilate in the direction of hair growth. For the longest time I was going against the hair. I would get loads of ingrown hairs and bumps. Since I've started epilating in the same direction as hair growth these have been reduced and the overall appearance of my legs as improved. They're still not perfect but they are much better. I also think that this is another trick to lessen the pain. After I've epilated in this direction a few times, I will lightly epilate against my hair growth, but just once to remove any remaining hairs. You may have noticed that I've only talked about my legs. This is because it's the least painful area to epilate. I have started doing my armpits regularly. The first time I put this near my armpits it took almost an hour as it hurt so much. It's not as bad now, but it still hurts enough that I dread it. I don't use this on my bikini line which is a really big letdown for me. The hairs are too thick and it hurts so much so that I don't think I could ever get used to it on that area. So, after using this regularly, I'm very happy with the results. My legs look much smoother than with shaving, not as good as hot waxing but honestly, not far off. I usually have to pluck out a few stray hairs with tweezers which never happens with waxing. I can go weeks without having to epilate instead of shaving after few days. The hairs have started to grow back much finer and this is now my main method of hair removal.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

One of the best epilators out there, definitely worth the money

This is a really great little gadget. I usually have my legs waxed at a salon but it can be a little pricey and you have to let your hair grow a fair bit between treatments. This causes problems particularly in summer when I want to wear a skirt but have a few millimetres of hair growth on my legs. Most people would probably shave but I absolutely hate shaving as it grows back so quickly and feels so prickly, so the Braun Silk-épil has been a total life saver. I can just whip it out whenever I want and quickly get rid of the emerging hair on my legs. I should say that, for me at least, the Silk-épil doesn't get rid of really short hairs and it doesn't leave your legs completely smooth. However, since my hair is quite thick and tenacious, my legs NEVER feel completely smooth, even after waxing, so less hairy women may well find that the Silk-épil gives them perfectly smooth legs. The design of the Silk-épil can't be faulted. The epilating head isn't fixed in one position, so it's really easy to epilate uneven areas such as the knees. There's no cable to get tangled up in. One of the most useful and innovative features is the little smartlight which illuminates even small, fine hairs that you could easily miss in regular light. You can change the epilating speed from slow to fast with the flick of a switch - I would recommend using the high speed since if anything it's less painful, and it just gets the job done more quickly. On the subject of pain, please don't be afraid if you're an epilating virgin. Yes, it does hurt a little bit, but it's absolutely bearable. It's probably more painful than waxing because it's constant and not as swift, but I'm positive that for the vast majority of women the pain of the Silk-épil will be well within their threshold, particularly if used between waxing sessions when the hair isn't so dense. To epilate both your legs takes only about 15 minutes, not exactly a long period of discomfort to endure. I've only spoken about legs and that's because... well, I wouldn't really recommend using the Silk-épil anywhere else, for example the underarms or bikini area. I tried using it on my underarms and found that not only was it much, much more painful than leg epilation, it simply didn't get the hairs out. I think that because the underarm is quite fleshy, and sort of undulates, the Silk-épil just can't pick up most of the hairs. I didn't have the guts to try it on my bikini area, but I imagine it would be quite awkward and very painful. I always wax my bikini line and it doesn't hurt very much at all and doesn't take too long, so I'd suggest doing that if you don't already. Originally written for Amazon.

I bought this product a while ago, thinking it would last longer than shaving. It does what it says, getting rid of the hair for longer. However, I found it did leave me with a lot of stubble feeling hair. I ended up shaving anyway. I could not bear the pain to go over it again and again. However, the trimmer is excellent and the light is extremely useful to see where you have missed. Overall this is a good product!

          waste of money

I bought this after reading all the positive reviews thinking that it will be great! I had used one many many years ago and remember well how much it had hurt! and sadly, it has not changed a bit, whoever says it doesn't hurt much while epilating the underarm or bikini area IS lying!!! it absolutely killed me:( I tried the underarm and it was very painful so I stopped it after a few seconds then what was I thinking; moved over to bikini area and I was in tears so had to stop it within a few seconds, there's no way you can use this for your underarms or bikini area, if you do then you must have the highestestest pain threshold in the world!! Legs don't hurt but then there's no smooth finish, you end up with pimples..I used the shaver head for my armpits and again it didn't work well, a manual razor is much more smooth! just to summarise, I'd say don't waste your money on a product like this or just have low expectations!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A great product that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.

I love my Braun Expressive Epilator. For years I have wanted to try an epilator for removing the hairs on my legs, but have been put off by stories of pain and the fact that most have looked liked instruments of torture (ok ok, so I exagerate, but you get the idea of my wimpish attitude). I was a firm "shaving will do" type of gal. It's amazing how attitudes can change once you have become a mother. You have a sort of "I've given birth to 4 children, what can hurt more than that?!" attitude which makes you look at the world in a whole new light. Out shopping one day, I saw these Braun Xpressive Epilators on offer and decided to give one a go - the new big brave girl that I am... Actually, I was amazed, surprised, and cross that I didn't buy one years ago. The pain is well - it isn't really a pain, more a slight tingly sharp discomfort, but it soon passes. Some areas on my legs are more sensitive to the feeling than others, I find the area around my ankles seems to more susceptible to such a feeling and I often whince with a little intake of breath when epilating there. The rest of my legs are relatively pain free. At first glance, the epilator is attractive to the eye. Eye catching packaging, opens up to reveal the comfortable to hold epilator, attachments, storage pouch and (in my case, not sure these are included in all packages) a small packet of Braun Epilator Wipes. The pouch is a good size, and will hold the epilator, plug/charger, and all the attachments with ease. The pouch is ok to look at too, mine is a silver mesh type material that fastens with a good zip. I liked the fact that it wasn't the usual black or clear free pouch that are often provided, as it means I can easily find my silver pouch amongst all the other bits and bobs I have erm, collected over the years. When I first switched the epilator on, I was horrified. Lots of little tweezer type things spinning around looked pretty scary - the thought of having to put those little tweezer things on my legs was even scarier! But, I rubbed my legs with the epilator wipes as instructed, waited 30 seconds, and held my breath as I put the epilator against my leg, only to find that...it didn't hurt!!! Yes I could feel it, but it wasn't half as bad as my over-active imagination thought it would be. There is a light on the epilator that is referred to as the "smartlight" and it's a brilliant idea. At first glance you wonder how something so little could make such a difference, but it really does show up the hairs you've missed. All in all, I am really pleased with the product. It is incredibly easy to use. You can change the attachments easily. You can transform it into a shaver if you prefer, and it is easy to see when it needs to be charged or when the charge is full. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

If you epilate it doesn't get much better than this

This review is for the Wet & Dry 7781 - Brauns first epilator that can be used in the bath or shower. It is rechargeable and charging time is about an hour and usage time per charge about 40 minutes. The charger is a 2 pin plug and adapter if you need one is not included. It comes with; Massage head which stimulates the skin before and after removing hair Efficiency Cap for fast epilation Underarm cap for use on delicate body areas Precision cap for precision of hair removal from face or sensitive areas A shaver head with opti-trim comb The 7781 has a pivoting head that it follows the contours of your body neatly which is great for those tricky parts like ankles and knees. There's a smartlight which is great for spotting hairs that would otherwise have got away. It also has a dual speed setting, a neat little bag for keeping caps etc in and a pack of pre-epilation wipes for cleansing and preparing the skin prior to epilation is included. The heads and caps are also detachable and can be cleaned under running water. Being able to use this epilator in the bath is great, after a lengthy soak I lathered my legs with shower gel and did both legs in a few minutes. It was practically pain-free, incredibly easy, no irritation and an added bonus is all the little hairs go down the plug-hole with the bath water. Please note I've been epilating for a while now so others may not find it quite so pain free, it's true that the pain lessens with continued use. Tips for first time users If you've never used an epilator before be prepared for a bit of pain but believe me it's worth it. After the first time the hairs grow back finer which makes them easier and less painful to remove The length of your hair does make a difference to how much it hurts and the OptiTrim comb with the shaver are designed to trim your hair to the optimum length for epilation. If you find hairs are growing back within a few days try epilating slower - if you go too fast it can cause the hairs to break off instead of being removed Epilating armpits can be particularly painful the first time (I remember it being an eye-watering experience!). Pull the skin as taut as you can, grit your teeth and stick with it. After doing mine for a few months now I hardly feel anything and don't even bother changing to the precision cap. My previous epilator is an earlier model Braun and they may not be the cheapest but they are definately worth every penny. Please Note: I also review on Amazon under username Big Bertha and this review or a version of it may also appear on there

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

The best epilator on the market; the latest model from Braun.

I ordered this epilator as a complete newcomer to the world of epilation. I'm also a wimp, hence never having tried these appliances before. Unlike waxing, this won't rip your skin off, and it also did not miss any hairs, again, unlike waxing. The epilator itself comes in an attractive presentation box, with ample instructions, an adaptor lead to charge and a pouch full of the other heads and accessories, including a shaver appliance for the faint-hearted. It was at this point that I discovered the epilator is sparkly white, rather than plain white, and it looks pretty. First of all, I tried it on my legs completely without preparation, and then I tried it after a bath (making sure I was dry and had no soapy residue on my skin). It is less painful after a bath because your pores are opened by the heat of the water. The shape of the device is very comfortable and easy to hold and manouevre, and I could tell these were of a very good quality, which I believe justifies the price. I also looked at reviews for their older model from last year, and was impressed by the consistently high feedback they had received. I was surprised just how noisily these epilators operate but then again, it distracts from the discomfort, which I also found I got used to relatively easily. YOu will experience a little redness, but even my sensitive skin calmed down quickly. I have only just received these epilators so cannot comment on regrowth, but in time, I shall add a comment below to expand on this. I'd recommend these to anyone in the market for an epilator, whether it's your first or your thirty-first, although I think these will last a long time so you probably won't be buying any more in a hurry. I forgot to mention that it does require you to buy a shaver adaptor plug, which are available on Amazon; it's a 2-pin affair. I also should say it charges very quickly and efficiently and does not overheat during charging or use. Being honest, I had red blotches for pores for a couple of hours. But they soon went down, and unlike post-waxing, it didn't sting when I had a shower this morning, so I couldn't recommend it more. I don't think you're meant to shower/bathe for a few hours immediately after. I found that using an ice-pack/frozen veg helped close the pores too. I also used the shaver today for the first time; as in the shaver attachment for this epilator, and I can say it works well and doesn't cause nicks or irritation at all.
