Advantages: Easy to clean, has a battery, quiet, relatively painless to use, removes almost all hairs!

Disadvantages: Doesn't work so well in the wet.

I was quite excited to receive my first epilator for Christmas this year, although also a little apprehensive when thinking about the pain. This Braun Silk-epil comes with both a razor and an epilator, which you can use together. It's also fully waterproof, meaning you can use it in the shower rather than after your shower. I first tried this dry and although I would say it was a little uncomfortable to start with, I soon got used to the pain. The epilator managed to remove even the shortest of hairs on my legs, missing only the very finest (I have since read that all epilators struggle with these). When finished my legs had no red marks and felt nice and smooth. The only problem is the head itself is quite large and inflexible and makes doing around your ankles and knees quite difficult. I suppose that it's handy it comes with a razor too so you can touch up these areas. I have since tried epilating in the shower and found that once wet this epilator was less efficient in terms of hair removal and also left me with red spots where the hairs had been removed.

In terms of cleaning, being a waterproof model means you can rinse everything under water, but it also comes with attachments for dry cleaning. Other positives about this model is that it's rechargeable so you are not restricted by a cord or cable and can happily remove your hair in front of the tv, although how the rest of your family will feel about this I don't know. I also found that it didn't make that much noise when I was using it. I was however, shocked when I saw that it retails for around £169.99, so make sure you look out for deals and grab a bargain.

All in all a good first time epilator that wasn't too painful to use!
