Like many others it took me a long time to pluck (bad pun) up the courage to get myself an epilator. I have always shaved my legs, but was always dissapointed because they could feel stubbly within literally hours of shaving. Hair removal creams had never lasted longer either and the obvious expense and mess wasnt worth it, and professional waxing was out of my price budget. So eventually I decided to give epilating a go and this Philips combination pack seemed to offer a pretty good package for the money. Of course it is somewhat painful at first, but you skin soons gets used to it, and I find if you skin is nice and warm, for instance straight out of bed in the morning it will be less painful than if your skin is cold. Straight out of a shower I find doesnt work either because your hair will be soft and slippier. I vary rarely use the smaller machine, I prefer the wide headed one which zips over you skin quickly, but the tweezers are a very useful additiion to get those pesky hairs that have been left behind. I normally find that once a week, a thorough going over my legs with this epilator will be enough to keep me smooth all summer.
Having been searching for an epilator for some time, I was finally bought this set as a gift. Everything you need to cater to your hair removal whims is included; there's the standard epilator with the wider head for large areas such as your legs, the smaller, slim line epilator for trickier, more sensitive areas such as underarms and bikini line, and a pair of tweezers with an in built light, you even get an exfoliator mitt and a handy pouch.
Both of the epilators have a lovely gold and black feminine design and feel very comfortable to hold and use.
I had heard many horror stories regarding how painful and "not worth it" epilators were before I actually tried one for myself so I was quite nervous using these for the first time. I decided to use the slim line epilator first, on my underarms, on the principle that it would probably be the most painful place and if I could handle that, my legs would be a breeze. After using the included exfoliating mitt, I proceeded with the task at hand and was pleasantly surprised- the epilator glided effortlessly, swiftly removing hairs with only very minor discomfort. It was certainly less painful than waxing and seemed to work superbly.
I was confident that my legs would now be virtually painless and switched to the larger epilator, at first it was okay and around the same mild discomfort as I experienced before, however, this was not to last. The pain soon became intense, mainly on the back of my legs. It genuinely felt like burning. I persevered and the results were excellent - my legs were the smoothest they had ever been and due to that, the pain was most certainly worth it.
I didn't need to epilate again for around a week, and then it was only catching the small hairs that had fought their way through. The pain is also a lot less intense now that I have epilators several times, probably due to the new hair being much thinner.
The tweezers included are spectacular, the in built light makes tidying up eyebrows an absolute doddle, and the magnifying mirror contained in the lid ensures you can see even the tiniest hairs. I don't think I could use another set of tweezers after using these.
The bottom line is that this kit is excellent, each item does what it is supposed to and does it well. If you can put up with the initial pain it is definitely a great investment.
I've always had the problem whereby my body hair grows back too quickly before I know it and shaving alone doesn't cut it because the next day or two, stubble reappears. I also don't like the idea of using those chemicals that melt the hair before you scrape it off and if I was to try waxing... well I might as well try epilating because its less messy!
Therefore I plucked up the courage to try out an epilator.
The best thing about this kit is that it comes with everything you need. A slim epilator with rechargeable batteries for the trickier contours of your body such as armpits and bikini line and then the regular shaped epilator which can also be used under water. The design of both epilators fit nicely in the palm of your hand.
Apparently I read that epilating whilst bathing helps sooth and reduce the pain although I tried it dry on my legs first and it wasn't all the painful so I moved onto my underarms and kind of edged it in.
I think I have quite a high pain tolerance because it still didn't hurt that much but when you use it full on under you arms, you WILL feel some sort of pain. For me it was tolerable. After you have done your armpits, it might bleed a bit but don't be shocked because its not much and for me, it didn't happen again after the first time.
The results make up for it though because after epilating, your skin is left so SMOOTH. It catches every hair - fine or thick, long or short. For me, the hair didn't grow back until well over a week which is GREAT for me.
The battery lasts 60 mins which is more than you need in one sitting and doesn't take long to recharge either, but just in case you do need to use it longer than an hour, you can use it whilst its plugged in.
The kit comes with a handy portable tweezer with mirror and light combined! Very awesome and useful for travelling. Everything fits nicely in a drawstring pouch with a cleaning brush too to brush the hairs out from the crevices of the tweezers. Its very easy to wash too... just rinse it under warm water or give it a soak in warm soapy water and let it air dry!
