Advantages: Reasonable price for a Gaggia machine and good quality

Disadvantages: A bit faffy to use when entertaining many guests

We bought our Gaggia Evolution coffee machine around 2 years ago. We both love lattes and espressos and so wanted to invest in a good coffee machine that would last a long time. We had heard that Gaggia was a good brand and saw this make on an offer in House of Fraser, and so bought it for around £130.00. We liked the stylish design of this coffee machine and the black and silver colours.

We are now over 2 years on from then and the coffee machine is still as good as it was then and used regularly. This machine is really simple to use and looks good on your worktop. There is a large reservoir of water in a clear plastic container below the handle which you fill up first, and the machine comes with a milk frother (which works really well to create nice frothy milk for lattes) and coffee scoups. You simply place the ground coffee in the handle section and press the on button, and the machine does the rest.

The coffee tastes just as good as in any coffee house I have been to when it comes out of this machine, and the machine is great for entertaining or if a friend comes round for morning coffee.

The machine is easy to clean and maintain with lots of removable parts including the drip tray.

I would say that the only downside to this machine is that it takes time to use and you can only produce 2 espressos at a time, so if you are trying to make coffees for several people at a dinner party you may be best using a cafetiere which you can quickly make and sit around until it has brewed.

Summary: Great espresso machine which produces amazing lattes!

Ah but the suggestion of that cafetiere means that an espresso and filter coffee are completely different; for starters filter coffee can be made with hotter temperatures whereas espresso cannot; reheating espresso also destroys the flavour.

A good compact review here but could do with deeper info; it looks classy and sounds well built but how good is the actual overall quality? Are any parts dishwasher safe for example? Is it noisy? Does it take up a lot of work top space? Is it heavy to move?

Gaggia do produce excellent machines generally if you can get over the price.
