I bought this coffee maker as a present for my husband a few months ago, and it’s become part of our daily lives. I got it in the red colour to match the colour scheme of our kitchen and it fits in perfectly. I didn’t expect to use it myself as I don’t drink coffee, but the hot chocolate pods (chocochino) are so nice that I can’t resist, the machine makes such a beautifully frothy drink that wouldn’t look out of place in starbucks.
When you get the machine it’s really easy to set up, and doesn’t take more than a few minutes to work out how everything works on it. You also get a sample pack of different capsules to try, and I also got a voucher to use on the Dolce Gusto website to use towards my first order of pods.
I tend to buy my pods from the actual dolce gusto website because even though they’re only slightly cheaper than Tesco (where I usually do my shopping) they offer free delivery if you buy 4 or more packs. There’s a huge range of pods, including espresso, milky coffee (café au lait,) cappuccino, hot chocolate (chocochino) and even cold drinks. While the pods might seem pricey at first, when you work out the cost per drink compared to coffee shops, they’re very good value for the standard of drink that is produced.
There’s a control on the top that allows you to adjust how strong you make your drink. Each type of pod also has a guide to let you know the recommended level to put it on. There’s also a lever at the top which allows you to select hot or cold water, as well as manually topping it up if the pre-set amount isn’t quite enough to fill your mug.
Would make a brilliant gift, and a fantastic addition to any kitchen!
I love coffee and tend to drink many cups throughout the day. Hence I brought this coffee machine (which was at half price).
This coffee machine is quite stylish; it looks good and I'm proud to have it in my kitchen. The colour of the machine that I purchased is red/white. However, there are so many different colours to choose from. It adds some vibrancy to my kitchen and it really is eye catching.
The machine is pretty easy to use, NOW that I am used to it. However, one of the biggest drawbacks of this machine is that it did not come with sufficient instructions (only images), which were not clear and also there are no measuring guidelines for water - this was so confusing. Other coffee machines do tend to have a measured dose system.
Using the machine (once you become somewhat accustomed) is quite easy. It's very simple - which is great when you wake up first thing in the morning and just want your coffee! All that it entails is: filling the tank with water - which can be quite noisy, power on and the LED changes from red to green, when it's ready to be used. Then you simply add the coffee pods - an advantage of this machine is that there are a small selection of free pods - so you can taste before you actually go and purchase these pods (which you may not necessarily like). However, some drinks (the latte and cappuccino) require both the coffee and milk pod and thus only 3 drinks can be made. For instance, if you purchase a pack of nescafe pods, which has 32 pods, it only has in actuality 16 pods because with some drinks (the latte and cappuccino) you have to use the coffee pods and milk pods.
The machine is relatively light; it is not too heavy. So, when I'm cleaning, if I want to clean under where the coffee maker is placed, I can simply lift it easily. It's very convenient, unlike some coffee makers which can be somewhat heavy. However, this coffee machine rarely needs any cleaning - which is a big advantage (because it's one less thing to clean).
However, these pods are somewhat expensive and you are limited to only being able to use Nescafe pods. What I really HATE about this machine is that sometimes you need to use more than one pod when you're making a cappuccino or a latte - the pod and also the milk. (some other drinks too). That is why I would only really purchase these pods when there is an offer. But an advantage is that these pods are available almost everywhere. You are not limited to solely purchasing from Nescafe themselves.
This machine makes both hot and cold drinks. It's a very nice addition to have in a coffee machine. In the winter I am able to have a nice piping hot coffee, whereas in the summer, I might be craving coffee, yet I may not want a hot drink, so I am able to have a nice cold drink, made at home by my very own coffee machine. There is a small lever switch, from left to right. One gives hot coffee and the other gives cold. So it's very simple.
The coffee tastes amazing - If you have ever tasted coffee from Starbucks/another coffee provider and attempted to emulate it and it has gone wrong - BUT with this coffee machine, the coffee that you make actually tastes like shop quality coffee.
