Advantages: very compact, and the steam arm is great for frothing milk.
Disadvantages: none
If you are a coffee lover then this espresso maker from Krups is for you. I bought mine from Argos for £88.00 and it is worth every penny. I must admit it took me over an hour and a half to work out how to use the thing because the instructions were written for rocket scientists I think, but I eventually got there in the end. It dispenses into one or two cups depending on the filter that you use and is very easy to keep clean. I have tried a medium blend of ground coffee and it is very economical to use. The water container fits onto the back and holds up to a litre so you don’t have to keep topping it up every two minutes. The best thing about this coffee maker is the steam arm for heating milk, a quick and easy way for hot chocolate or milky coffee, you just hold your mug of cold milk under it for twenty seconds and it is piping hot. It is so much easier and quicker than boiling a pan on the stove or using a microwave. Quick tip here though, always switch the steam knob back to neutral before you remove the frothy milk otherwise you will end up with milk all over the place. I learnt that the hard way it was up the wall and all over my hair. Frightened the life out of me! The steam nozzle is very powerful! All you lovers of frothy coffee and cappuccino will like it. Filter about a third of a cup of coffee then froth up a bit of skimmed milk using the steam arm to add to it. (Full cream milk is not suitable because it leaves a skin on the top) A pinch of chocolate powder or cinnamon finishes it off to a turn. Hot chocolate with marshmallows on the top is another favourite of mine but extremely fattening. Have you ever bought a cappuccino from a coffee shop? I bet you paid at least £1.20 for it. I have worked it out and it only costs about eight pence to make using this machine. Very little milk is needed because it froths up so much and a bag of filter coffee granules for £1.69 goes a very l
ong way, believe me. Put this on your Birthday or Christmas present list it really is a great thing to have in the kitchen and you will have fun trying out all the recipes from the book provided. I won’t tell you about them because it will spoil the fun. Oh apart from the one with a dash of brandy in……..That is very delectable take it from me! It is nice and compact so does not take up too much room on the work-top, about the same size as an average kettle. Must go now I am going to make myself one of those hot chocolate toddy’s with a wee dash of rum in and top it off with a crumbled flake……..any one want one?

- 18/09/01 This is a good coffee maker but it does not make a good cup of espresso coffee. This is because it is a pressure model and suffers from lack of a pump to force the water through the beans thus extracting the oily slick that make a good espresso. To get that you need to spend round about £130 for a pump version or more. |
