Advantages: Great coffee, Quicker than instant coffee, Clean and convenient
Disadvantages: £50 means it isn't the cheapest pod coffee macnine on the market
This is a superb development in the delivery of real coffee. A coffee "pod" (like a large circular tea bag) is inserted into the top and the lid sealed to create a water and steam tight compartment. Boiling water / steam is infused through the coffee pod and creates a wonderful brew in under 30 seconds. The machine creates a "crema" layer on the top of the coffee the manufacturers tell us is to keep the flavour in. I was a bit sceptical at first and concidered a cheaper pod coffee machine but having enjoyed Douwe Egberts coffee in the past was impressed with the fact that this machine had been developed in partnership between Douwe Egberts and Phillips. The Douwe Egberts coffee pods are available from most supermarkets - I buy mine from Sainsburys. They come in four varieties Mild Roast - smooth and mild Medium Roast - aromatic and rounded Dark Roast - deliciously strong Decaffeinated - the same as medium roast without the caffeine. VERY IMPORTANT - If you buy one of these read the instructions before switching on. You have to run a tank full of water through the machine first or face "certain doom". The two unique selling points with this macnine are 1) you get instant real coffee that tastes really good and 2) it is clean quick and convenient. Buy one now - you wont be dissapointed. There is a website backing up this product with helpful advice including where to buy the macnines and pods on www.senseo.com.
