Advantages: skin feels fab

Disadvantages: very expensive, hasn't got rid of skin redness

I'm not normally one for expensive skin products. I've always found that soap and water and a bit of cheap Superdrug moisturiser is enough to keep my skin reasonably soft, clean and blemish free. But I'm not getting any younger, and I've recently started noticing the beginnings of a few wrinkes and some dryness in my cheeks. I've also always had redness in patches on my face, which I've had to rely on blemish cream to cover up.

I came across Estee lauder Idealist Skin Refinisher in one of those little sample sachets you get in the middle of wonen's magazines. They usually end up in the bin, but I tried this on a whim and couldn't believe how soft, silky and downright sexy my skin felt immediately after application. I resolved to splash out on a bottle the very next chance I got.

My resolve was tested when I discovered the price of the stuff - £23 for a tiny little bottle! But I cast my mind back to how great it felt on my skin, gritted my teeth and handed over my cashcard.

This time when applying it, I paid more attention to the supposed effects of the cream, as £23 is a lot of money to spend on something if all it does is make your skin feel nice without any other benefits. It's claimed that the cream will reduce the size of your pores, minimise fine lines and wrinkes and eradicate flakiness and redness.

Well, I've been using it for a month now, and it definitely reduces the size of your pores. Mine are a lot less visible. I'm not so sure about the minimising fine lines claim, as I didn't have too many to start with, but the redness is disappointingly unchanged. I still have to cover my red patches with concealer before applying foundation. It does make my skin feel incredibly soft and smooth, which I presume means that it's exfoliating the flakes of dead skin from my face (nice) and my make up does glide on a lot more smootly than it did.

Is it worth £23? Prob
ably not - I can't see the pot lasting for longer than about 3 months - but having said that, I will be buying it again, purely for the luxurious feel of the stuff on my skin. It also goes really well under the Estee Lauder day wear moisture cream, so I think I will be sticking to Estee Lauder products in the future.

If it works and makes you feel good it's worth every penny.
