I recently realised i was running out of hard drive space on one of my externals so i decided to upgrade to a 2TB HDD. I was looking around online and found the Buffalo Juststore Desktop 2 TB. I've used Buffalo's hard drives before so decided to come back for this new drive, and seeing as it was 2TB in size i was even more attracted to it.
Upon opening the box you can see the hard drive is stored securely in a foam moulding to support the drive and to avoid damage or knocking of the HDD. Its also packaging in a plastic bag as is the AV power cable and usb cable. Also included in the box is the help manual. User guide and set up instructions. After removing the packaging you can see that the HDD is fairly small and as the name suggests desktop friendly. Its size measures at W4.5cm x H17.5cm x D15.6cm and weighs in at only 1kg making it fairly small and lightweight. The colour of the casing for this HDD is black with grey/silver trim so it can go with almost any desktop colour or appearance.
I tried this hard drive using Windows vista Home Premium. I plugged in the AC cable and usb cable and hooked it up to my laptop. The blue light on the external HDD began to flash and it was on and working, then windows began to install the device drivers. Within around 15 - 20 seconds the hard drive was installed and ready to go.
The internal drive type is a SATA drive with a 2TB capacity and can be connected to a USB port via a Hi-speed USB cable. The transfer rate of this HDD is 480 Mbps using a 4 pin USB type B, high speed USB cable. It has a very simple plug and play method of use.
The hard drive is powered using the included AC power adapter which is plugged into a power supply. The power consumption used is very small at only 12 Watts. The voltage required is AC 120/230 V (50/60 Hz). Despite its large 2TB size and the initial size of the drive, the cooling fan makes almost NO noise and is practically un noticeable when in use, which makes it perfect use for computing without having to be put off by the annoying whizzing of a fan spinning around.
I am very impressed with this hard drive and it was definitely worth the £85 price tag that came with it. Its highly reliable and can transfer large amounts of data with quick and pain free ease. In one instance i transferred and backed up my entire music library of over 100GB within under 15 minutes, which shows the powerful and quick speed of this hard drive.
The 2TB of space is more than enough space to keep you going for a good few months and in most cases is more than enough space you will ever need for your documents.
I would highly recommend this hard drive to anyone looking to buy a reliable good sized HDD for an amazing price.
