We have been concerned for some while about storage on the computer. There are also a lot of things that we would really hate to lose - such as family photos etc. With the arrival of digital photography, it is so easy to download the photos on to the computer and decide to come back later to sort them out or print the ones required at the time. All too often you hear of friends losing everything stored due to a power surge - or some such! During the past couple of years we started saving things to disk - unfortunately, another thing that tends to get put off until you have more time!
Last October we were visited by a relative who proudly showed off his latest acquisition - a portable hard drive - complete with ALL the photos that he wanted to show us which he had transferred from his computer.
Following his visit, we decided to have a look at similar items on offer. The one we settled on was the Freecom Mobile Drive Classic 250GB. Admittedly, this was partly due to the fact that Amazon, in their wisdom, decided to put it on special offer - which we decided to accept! Once the decision was made and the item ordered we were very impatient for it to arrive.
I have to say that we have not been disappointed. Transferring files from the computer couldn't be easier. Just plug in to the USB port (either USB 2.0 or 1.1) and it's ready to go. There is no need for an AC adapter as the power is taken directly from the computer. There is very little noise involved - apparently because it has been designed without a fan. There is an LED capacity indicator in a very attractive shade of blue.
This hard drive takes very little room as it measures only 8cm x 14cm x 2cm (approximate measurements). It weighs in at just 300g and comes in a very nice shade of black. It also comes with a manufacturer's warranty of one year.
As you may have realised, from the lack of technical data, all this sort of thing means very little to me. Consequently, I feel it is all the more recommendation proving how easy it is to use.
All in all, I really do feel that this is well worth buying. You can take it (and the contents of your computer) anywhere - meaning you can also "plug and play" into other computers - so not ONLY a back-up device for your stored files and extra storage but a useful mobile tool as well.
I hope that this will have been of use to you and I thank you for reading.
