I tested this product for over a month and so have good experience with how it works and it's uses. The connecting cable is a simple USB to USB connecting cable.
This is a really modern external hard-drive coming with USB 3.0 technology. It's appearance is extremely modern, with a sheek black gloss finish over the small sized box. It comes with rounded corners so that you don't hurt yourself carrying the hard-drive whilst also being comfortable. It is no bigger than a medium sized paperbook and weighs very little. This makes it extremely compact and easy to take places such as on business meetings with the external hard-drive as the safe backup of all important files. There is a small Hewlett-Packard logo in the bottom corner which is a nice touch to distinguish this product from other similar products, especially if you own many external hard-drives.
The size of the hard-drive is also a great feature of it. A single terabyte is a huge amount of storage space. 1TB (terabyte) equates to 1024GB (gigabytes). And, one gigabyte is 1024 megabytes. This is a seriously large amount of storage which the average person would never even get close to filling. Even a hardcore PC user who downloads a lot of big files would take a long time to fill such a hard-drive. This is obviously a great advantage but some people would argue that this is a bit excessive for the average PC user and I would agree. The average PC user would quite easily be able to backup all of their data on a hard-drive with half of the capacity of this one or even a quarter.
However, this hard-drive has one huge advantage over many other current hard-drives on the market and that is the speed of the data transfer. Due to the use of USB 3.0 on this hard-drive, data can be taken off and on to this hard-drive a lot faster than it can off a normal USB 2.0 external hard-drive. This is vitally important if you are time-conscious and have huge files to move. However, this is also a disadvantage of this product as many laptops and PCs don't come with USB 3.0 compatibility yet meaning that you will not get these superfast speeds and may even have the issue of your PC or laptop not recognizing the device which can cause further issues. But, it could be argued that this device is somewhat 'future-proof' as it has the technology which will be used in the near future.
Overall, I would give this hard-drive a 3.5/5 as it is a really great external hard-drive with tons of space and superfast data transfer. As well as this, it is extremely portable and is future-proof. The only downside of purchasing this hard-drive is that you might have to sell your PC or laptop to afford it as it comes a princely sum of just over £200 which is almost the cost of a cheap laptop nowadays. With alternative products in slightly smaller sizes coming in at a third of this cost, you really need to weigh up whether you need such a piece of kit. If you just wish to backup work documents etc. then there is probably no need for such a device but if you are a hardcore file user and downloader then, this is the perfect hard-drive for you.
