I bought this hard drive (£60) when my laptop hard drive was running low; the hard drive is very sturdy and comes with a stand so you can have it standing vertically rather then horizontally. It looks sleek with its metal shell.
When you turn it on using the switch at the back of the hard drive, you'll hear very little noise. When you connect the hard drive to your PC or MAC you'll quickly see a window pop up asking what you would like to do. (Play files, view pictures, open folder and more). I was able to transfer by entire laptop hard drive approx 117GB in around 3-4 hours.
The 1TB storage space is amazing and I have yet to encounter any problems with the hard drive.
Recently my hard drive seems to have what sounds like a ball bearing or screw rolling around on the inside. After taking apart the hard drive I was unable to access the part that the noise was coming from. The hard drive is still working exactly as it was before hand.
everybody should have a central point where they can back up their important documents. I purchased this hard drive with that in mind.
The 1 TB of storage that this unit supplies is perfectly adequate to store music, videos and files. I currently have a wide variety of all 3 of these files types and still it is only half full.
The ease of use is impressive. Being a hard HD it needs an external power source and the necesary plug and wire is supplied. There is also a very uselful on/off switch on the unit itself. This means that it can remain plugged into even the hardest to access plugs without being left on and using valuable electricity.
Just above the power button is the type 2 USB input. Again, this wire is included in the package and allows for the HD to be connected directly into your PC or laptop. Once connected it self installs the necessary software and is ready to se in about 15 seconds. Beyond this first use it is found by the laptop/pc almost instantly.
On the front face of the unit, as well as the company logo (discretely engraved), there is a very slim (approx 2mm) LED operation light. This illuminates blue to indicate that the HD is operational. This provides a very useful, quick reference point as to whether or not the unit is switched on.
The HD is encased in a very solid stainless stell case. The ends of the case are grey plastic with ventilation holes. This allows for air to circulate around the HD thus preventing over heating.
The hole unit measures approx 11cm high, 20 com long and 3 cm deep. This is not the smallest 1TB HD that is on the market but is certainly not the biggest.
The stylish design of the HD is complimented by a discreet plastic moulded base. It is coloured grey and has very sleek curved lines. The main unit slots into the base thus allowing it to be stored in an upright position and therefore taking up less desk space.
Mine has been operational for 6 months now and has shown no sign of failure, making it a very reliable and cost effective, retails at approx £80 (TESCO), method of backing up.
Having completely filled my 80gb hard drive I decided to buy a big hard drive that would last my long time with lots of storage for all my files. The Iomega is good value from Tesco (under £70 before vouchers), as you get a 1TB sata hard drive (which I now use in my computer) and an external enclosure (where I put my old hard drive inside, in place of the 1TB drive).
I have been using the 1TB hard drive everyday now for a few months, without any problems at all. The drive seems quick to access (7200rpm according to Tesco website). The drive seems quiet to run, and I can't tell its running when my computer is on. Only 931GB are shown in windows (due to 1000kb not 1024kb) but it is shown as 1000GB in the bios :-) !!
The external enclosure seems less well made than others but, as long as you're gentle with it, it is much more portable than bulkier models. If, like me, you want to use the 1TB hard drive inside your computer rather than in the enclosure then it's simple to take the enclosure apart and put the hard drive in your pc.
Overall I think this was an excellent buy. I can't find any major flaws with either the hard drive itself or the enclosure, and now I have plenty of space on my hard drive!
I recently bought this product from Tesco Direct and everything seems great so far (touch wood). It says 1 TB (Terabytes) which is 1024 GB (Gigabytes) but when you plug in the hard drive you only have around 930 GB. It works brilliantly and is just the same as in the pictures.
The drive itself is quite heavy but not too heavy. It is very easily carried from place to place enabling you to transfer data from one source to another. The current price was £69.97 and is compatible with most operating systems; I currently use Windows Vista Premium.
The drive has a simple on/off switch which helps save on energy costs and helps save the drive from wear and tear. The USB is set for USB 2.0 and the speed of the drive is set to 7200rpm (rotations per minute).
The power supply and stand are included in this package. Overall this is a cheap, reliable and useful product if you need to transfer large amounts of data around with you all the time. I have conferences and meetings in which I require to carry videos as well as presentations and all my work documents.
I would give this a 9/10 for customer satisfaction.
