Advantages: Good speed, looks good and easy to use

Disadvantages: get's a bit hot and makes noise

During my travels I have more than 7000 photos, 100 videos, and plenty of stories. These photos were always on my laptop, but I noticed that this was going a little bit slower. 7000 high quality photos are taking a good size of the memory. I decided to buy a hard disk and there are so many suppliers of hard drives that I was overwhelmed. So I walked to a specialist and came back with the LaCie Hard Disk 1 TB.

An external hard drive should be seen as like a great big memory card. You can take it anywhere you go and store all your files on it. You can just plug it into your USB port to use. This way you can prevent your computer is full with pictures and other files. And of course it's a great back up system just in case something goes wrong with your computer.

When you have purchased it, both offline and online, get the whole thing neatly in a box, impact-free home. On the box itself is the designer of this product. For the rest you can see there is information about the hard disk, how big it is and what operating system it is suitable. The color black predominates and the whole look in my eyes is quite chic.

In the title of the product you see the name of Neil Poulton and also on the packaging you see him in the large. He is a Scottish product designer, who now lives in France. Graduated from the international designer school Neil Poulton has won many awards in product design and is a highly skilled craftsman and I have to say he did a pretty good job with this one!

Neil Poulton has done his best to create a very stylish design. He has chosen for the color black and the whole thing is shiny. It also looks just very slick but in my case it's often an plus. The disk is very robust and can withstand shocks and impact. Just don't drop it from three floors high of course.

There is no software included, everything is already neatly installed on the drive. The first time you use him you get an installation screen where you can adjust some settings.. For example you select whether you want to format the disk or backing up data for your files. This option can be always be used from the hard drive itself if you ever want to use it. You can also simply connect the hard disk to the USB port and use it.

It works very simple and quick. You plug the wire that from the hard disk into the PC and you'll automatically (for Windows, I do not know if it's the same with a Mac, since I have never used on in my life) a screen with options to "AutoPlay, open files, folders, etc.". When you clikc on open files then you will end up in the system folders of the disc and you can find everything and add things. It also supports any file type you could wish for! In short just drag & drop your files there and it's ready.

The biggest negative I can found with the hard disk is the noise. He makes more noise then I expected and every two to three minutes it starts to make a noise. Not very annoying but just a bit. Also it becomes a little bit hot but not bad so no danger of something getting on fire.

I find the speed of the hard disk very important. It should go fast when I want to transfer files and not have to wait for hours to transfer big files. It helps if you have a fast USB 2.0 port but luckily I have. The transferring goes quickly and fast enough for me. I think he takes about 10 seconds for 10 files of 1mb so really not bad.

I am thrilled with my new purchase and it has many advantages with only a small negatives. I got it for 100 pounds and think it's worth every pound. With up to 1 terabyte of memory, you can actually save whatever you want. The hard disc will be long-lasting because it is very robust.. The design looks slick and neat so you can leave it for everybody to see. He works fast, does its job and is compact enough to take everywhere you go!
