Trusted piece of kit, quiet as a mouse.

I never used to back up data on my laptop, but since my old laptop decided to break I have backed up data ever since. The LaCie Little Disk is a 500GB USB 2.0 external hard drive that stores data directly through the USB port and so far I have encountered no problems in around 12 months of use. The hard drive is very quiet and efficient. The software it comes with is very easy to use and I think the sleek black finish is very fetching! Some hard drives can be very noisy, this LaCie isnt anywhere near as noisy as most and I would say it is almost silect most of the time.

The Little Disk is 8.1cm x 12.9cm x 1.8cm and so is very compact indeed for use at both home and work. The data transfer speed is 480Mbps and uses high speed USB interface. With a weight of just 195grams it is very portable and has enough capacity to satisfy most users' needs. Unfortunately power for the Little Disk is via an additional USB connection. It comes with a carrying case which is very handy because the finish is very easily scratched.

There isnt a great deal you can say about these external hard drives, and when in operation there isnt much difference between them all. What I would say, though, is that because this one is so quiet and the software effiecient this hard drive stands out from the rest and must be considered at around the £80-£90 mark. Reliability is the number 1 factor with these products and I have never had a problem in the time I have owned this. There is a limited 2 year warranty with this product, but I find this irrelevant as if the hard drive corrupts you have lost all our data and that can be irreplacable.
